Brian - funny you should mention that! Because I don't have
much free time, but really know how to squander that which I do
have, I have begun organizing the -
<drum roll> Ground Zero Games West Coast Convention!
Yes, I threatened it many times before on the list - now it will
be a reality! I'm planning for early October in the San Francisco Bay area
(even though I'm in El Ay it seems most Californian list members are there
...). More details to follow soon.
Go ahead, folks. Start volunteering _now_ to run games!
While I'm talking about it:
- Does October 6 - 8 sound good?
- Where in the Bay area sounds good? I'm aiming right now
for Oakland, but I'm sure south of there might be better. Anyone on the list
have a (good) relationship with a hotel in that area that they'd be willing to
exploit?
Thanks to Jon, Mark, and Jerry! Guys, I had a terrific time at the EC con!
Glad I decided it was worth it to drag my butt across the country to go.
Thanks again to LOS and Tom for "Grey Day". I never had so much
fun playing a wargame before - and after about 12 hours of it I
was beginning to really think I was there with my troops... Hope the therapy
will help me! Honestly, this was one of the best run games I've ever seen.
Tom's terrain was great, LOS and Tom
provided tons of great figs and vehicles, _and_ LOS had a
soundtrack and sound effects ("INCOMING!"), too!

Sure.

Oakland is good, as it's easy to get to from anywhere in the bay area, and
easily accessable via OAK airport.
As for hotels, I believe that the Oakland Marriot (I'm not sure on the name,
but I know where it is) holds both a Comic and Magic Convention at other
points in the year, and thus they are probably aware of the needs of a gaming
con.
PS.
I used to help organise PacifiCon and live here in Berkeley, so if you need
any help...
Ted: Please keep us informed about the con. There are at least two people
myself (John W. Fox) and another Jon (John Leary) in the Santa Clara area who
play the game.

Hey, I'd like to suggest a compromise solution on a place to hold the
convention....Fresno! It's about midway between the two, and we have so
many.....great places to stay it's unbelievable! (Of course it has nothing to
do with the fact that I live here:)

I miss Pacificon....

I would be interested in seeing a GZG convention in the SF Bay area. I don't
play Dirtside or Stargrunt, and I've only played FT a few times, but I would
love to attend, schedule permitting. I'm in the Sunnyvale area myself (about
10 miles from San Jose).

Hey, I'm in Sunnyvale also. I know that there are some other members of this
mailinglist who live nearby, Hi John.
I'm also very interested in a GZG con. especially if in the SF Bay area.
Enjoy,

Don, I would advise using San Jose to arrive, rides can be arranged from S.J..
Bye for now,

Greg, We will keep you posted on the South Bay Gaming Club meeting
at the Cupertino library. With luck we can have a FTF next month.
Bye for now,
*sigh* Looks like I'll probably have to sit this one out. The current
Bilderback Household Travel Budget for Fiscal Year 2000 just doesn't contain
the funds for me to go to the Bay Area for a weekend to game. Not to mention
trying to sell that one to my Distaff Counterpart.
What's even more disheartening is the fact that, from the looks of the
responses, I'm the only San Diego County resident willing to admit he plays
any of these games. Which means I don't foresee finding any opponents any time
soon, Convention or no...

Yes, I'm sure one of us living nearby would offer to pick you up from the

you up for a night if need be.

Sorry, Brian.

Well, I don't live in San Diego - but I live not too far away in LA.
Interested in coming up to play?
Actually, I'm in LA this weekend, but I'll be a bit busy. My wife has a state
boards exam to take for her job on Friday, Saturday we celebrate if she
passes.
Friday while she's taking the exams, I'll be shopping. Can you recommend a
good store to find 1/300th stuff? San Diego's kinda bare. Please respond
ASAP, I'll probably check my mail ONCE more before we leave tomorrow evening.

Thanks Tom, I really appreciate the offer. If I can make it (and I ought to be
able to), I figured that I'd drive in. It's only what, a twelve or
fourteen hour drive. No biggie. :-) Thanks for the offer of
accommodations, though. I'm probably coming with a fellow lister (hi Rick!)
we'd probably just split a hotel room. I'll keep the offer in mind if I run
into any
problems. :-)
I want to second what Jon Davis said. This is the best list I've been on, and
a great little community we've got going on here. I hope to see the West Coast
folks in October and I hope to make the ECC in the next year or two.
