At least our aliens aren't immune to bullets...

I had no idea (heard it recently, haven't had a chance to confirm) that
there were some U.N.I.T. spinoff shows/movies. Any of you Who-vians or
residents of Britannia care to confirm/deny this? Any info appreciated.
I
think if you needed to make a revived Dr. Who spin-off, U.N.I.T. would
have been an excellent choice.
The other funny part is, other than his accent, Brigadier Alastair Gordon
Lethbridge-Stewart could have fit right into my old reserve unit. We had
the same sweaters (I suspect that our combat pants varied slightly, but we did
look a lot like the Brits of the day) and my FNC1 was essentially the same as
the ones used by the U.N.I.T. troops. And I heard 'Five rounds, rapid fire!'
enough times.... or my other favourite 'With five rounds, emergency load!'
(you could jam stripper clips of 5 straight into the top of the FNC1
in an emergency when you'd used up all your already mag-loaded ammo).
Some more goodness:

interesting bits)

Lastly a modernized UNIT engagement:

(I really like their ride, although methinks it ran a bit to quiet considering
its engine systems)

Definitely not at this point, though it's shown up a fair bit in Torchwood as
well as in Doctor Who. Certainly if you've seen the end of the most recent Who
series (not the Christmas special) they seemed to be setting up for a possible
spinoff, but I've heard nothing better than rumours.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Intelligence_Taskforce
...mentions a couple/few direct-to-video attempted follow ons from
before the most recent series; never have seen them, myself.
FYI, I've seen too darn few of the new Doctors.
Given how U.N.I.T. rank-and-file were treated originally, you'd do as
well doing a spinoff based on the original red shirts from Star Trek...
In the case of the Brigadier, he never tended to more than foil for the
Doctor, so you can, as well, conceive of a magazine series based on Dr.John
Watson, or movies of the adventures of Jane. Possible, but it would take
amazing writing to be more than a very small niche. My impression is that the
Inspector Morse follow on, Lewis, isn't likely to see a third season.

(Now where can I find this on video, I wonder?)
I was talking about past UNIT appearances. This helps with a bigger list and
more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNIT
I wasn't necessarily thinking of current spinoffs.
This was interesting too:

Fair enough. The Who fanatic I asked about this had never heard of it,
and he even collects the audio dramas. :-)

Ok, then ask him about these, also mentioned on the wiki I pointed to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtime_(Doctor_Who)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auton_trilogy
Though 'Like all spin-off productions the canonicity of these films is
uncertain'.
However, Wartime has Benson, and Downtime has the Brigadier, Sarah Jane,
Victoria Waterfield, and Professor Travers, as played by the original stars,
and the Autons has 'all story elements relating to Doctor Who were licensed
from their respective authors.'
That should push him 'round the bend, off his nut, crackers...'
