I finally picked up my copy of Mongoose's version of Traveller on Friday. My
FLGS is an 80 mile round trip away which is not a lot of fun as Belfast is in
the way. Slightly annoyed as well that nothing else I had ordered over a month
ago was there including the book they told me they had. I am quite impressed
and surprisingly not bothered by the artwork but then of course I have a large
collection of old GURPS books so one becomes inured to rubbish artwork. I
still think the original Traveller books were among the best illustrated RPG
books of any with basically no artwork at all and a nice clear layout. The
vehemence of some of the comments on the TMP aimed at Mongoose is astonishing.

Speaking of Traveller and TMP. Here's my recent TravellerCon pimping post on
TMP.
It's got a link to some photos of my GZG High Tech Grav vehicles.
Oh, and RAFM have re-released the old Citadel High Tech troopers as of
last week. They are no longer OOP.

Ah, I have some of these from an Ebay batch of misc 15mm SF from several years
ago; mixed trav stuff from a bunch of different companies from "back in the
day". Nice to know they're available again if I need more close assault
squads!

You have a point. Each of the editions of Traveller that followed the first
one seemed to get worse in some ways (though not all, each had something that
appealed) and the appeal of the Mongoose version is that it is based on the
'real' Traveller. time will tell. Until then we keep the flame.

One of the prize pieces of my collection is Call of Cthulu with both Chaosium
and GW logos.
If you take a look at the earliest White Dwarfs, all you'll see is
Traveller and D&D. I think pretty much GW/Citadel started with licenses
of these.

Speaking of which, Andy Slack got permission from GW to post all his articles
from WD to the web. As is the entire run of the comic Travellers.
In related news, Rafm has been slowly releasing the what they have of the old
Martian Metals Vehicles and most recently the High Tech Infantry which was
released by Citadel in the early 80s.
So is that a enough Traveller goodness to keep y'all going.
I didn't realize there was two versions coming out at the same
time...interesting.
I also have a collection of Gurps books. I never really thought about
the artwork...(art? what art? There is art in there? :-)
One of the things I really liked about Traveller was you could always find
something useful for whatever project you were working on. Those
guys seemed to cover most subjects long before Gurps/Champions/etc. did.
