for use with something similar to Star Ranger's version of the Yamato.

Due to metaphysical and dramatic reasons that have yet to be explained, the
more Yamato is damaged, the more powerful the Wave Motion Gun becomes. To
represent this in the game, the Wave Motion Gun gains +1d6 damage for
every threshold row of hull points lost by the Yamato. Furthermore, the Wave
Motion Gun is not subject to any threshold rolls, but remains operational
right down to the very last Hull Point.

This rule is why the Yamato dives into the acid sea of Gamelon.
