with Shotguns too cheesey? I'm actually thinking of the flachette guns from
HH, but I'd treat them as shotguns. It would mean PA in a boarding action
would walk over most other troops.
Has anyone done this?

No but I have used power axes for boarding action.....think I got you out
cheesed......) I do like the shoot gun idea, it would be perfect in causing
the necessary panic in the opposition and yet taking a ship intact due to
lower penetration........good idea.

Not played enough games of SG, but have sort of fluffed my Marines with PA.
Shotguns and Power Axes.. and makes them a Threat..
but then I would rather have some sort of BattleClaws...

I'd have thought it would be muzzle-loading black powder blunderbusses.

That really depends on which edition battledress you subscribe too.

Yes.

Hmmmm. IIRC PA with dual shotguns would really kick ass in SG2.... to the
point that I remember being surprised that no official PA shotgun figures were
being produced. Or would that be too GW like?:) (You could charge double for
them Jon!!) OTOH I also remember thinking that under barrel grenade launchers
which were supposed to be factored in were woefully underpowered. Maybe a
limit of three turns worth of shots per squad with seperate die rolls?
War! What is it good for? Er.....gaming

http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lThe whole Power Axe
thing always seemed kind of silly to me. Would you send a SWAT team in with an
axe? I want my marines carrying firearms. If they shoot you at 6 feet you
never get to swing your clumsy axe.
That is, of course, IMNSHO.

Absolutely, but I figured it was a bit like putting wave cannon in FTII, you
see it in the genre.
Mind you, if Herbert could PSB reasons for knife fighting in Dune, I guess you
could explain the need of the Rosen Ritters' skill on Isenlohn, not that I'D
want to try...
By the way, in boarding actions, I'd assume that the receiving crew would be
at least suited, and that, though not full PA, would be some protection
against standard shotgun blasts. Now, if you're going to shoot a shotgun like
some other gun, then it IS some other gun in the granularity of SG, right?
With a load of 00, I always figured my quick firing, short-barrelled 12
gauge was a small caliber, low muzzle-velocity machine pistol.
Course, I'se just a simple vacc-head.

You're much too grounded in reality...let it go.;)

I may be coming into this a little late and may have missed a few posts,
but...
I have always thought that "power" weapons were a bit silly. I do however know
of a nice alternative that seems at least a bit more
"realistic" - vibro-weapons, monofilament, or even "heat" blades. These
weapons are all variants on a solid blade but make it more effective.
Also, though GW has made it sort of silly, chain weapons would be ideal for
boarding as would hydraulic claws and such. These could be carried by PA just
as easily as they are carried by firefighters today and might be bolted onto
the arms of Pas to allow them use of their guns and hands.
I would also ventures that a good ol' fashioned crowbar or fire axe would
still be quite effective in boarding operations. Goop bombs and
other non-lethal weapons would also be a good way of dealing with
boarders and repellers without having to risk damaging the very stuff you are
trying to steal.

Unless you're a Lensman, in which case you're fighting in an inertialess[1]
field. Massless bullets do no damage against you, but if you can get the enemy
between a wall and your axe, you can slice through them without them bouncing
away.
Or at least, that's the PSB EE 'Doc' Smith used...
[1] Space combat was in massless (not weightless) conditions.
Everything (de)accelerated instantly as soon as any force was applied, so the
argument was you needed a melee weapon which you could apply continuous force
to, in order to do
any damage. Hey - it's space opera!
