This was the Con Queso scenario, in which all the squads parachuted into the
temple complex at Shangri Baa. The players placed their minis. Then I placed
the shoggoths, which were about the size of a tank, and that led to Adrian's
query..

Given that shoggoths are semi-amorphous, it doesn't surprise _me_ that
they couldn't see them as they were parachuting in. The only question is why
the shoggoths didn't get them as they were landing. *grin*

Their spotting rolls were probably as bad as their melee rolls. They
apparently confused their d12s with d2s.

I have to admit, whenever I miss ECC (like this year) is the Quotes Board that
always drives that home. Sounds like a good time, as always.

Well, it took a 6-year-old with a Power Armor squad to decide to
close-assault a shoggoth. Not the best idea of the game.
It took a 13-year-old with a PA squad to almost *succeed* in taking down
a shoggoth (though *not* viea close-assault).

A 13 year old with a 53-cheese-point squad, and *almost* succeed.

I never expect the best idea out of a six year old, but am often delighted
when they buck my expectations.

I always give credit to a thirteen year old who can take advantage of cheese;
just disappointed when they demand it.

But, point taken, these sound NASTY. That would be surprising to whom?

Not sure whether the "these" refers to JonMark's squad or the shuggoth.
JM's squad was 6 elite troops including Leader-1, fast heavy power
armor, FP3 Imp 12 gaus rifles, 2 support weapons and 3 IAVR. And
high-powered (2 die shift) melee weapons.

The shoggoth was treated as a vehicle. If you disabled the vehicle and "killed
the crew" (with d12 armor), then you killed the shoggoth. Otherwise it would
regenerate.

Maybe it's because I've never been to an ECC, but I find about half the quotes

what's needed is some more context...

That's a fair approximation of a shoggoth. I once had a werewolf eaten by one
in a Call of Cthulhu game. I didn't even get a chance to roll... They be nasty
(though I'm more of a fan of Dark Young of
Shub-Niggurath, which paint up nicely...).

I'm pretty sure we've allready seen a Dark Ewe of Sheep-Niggurath.

But Sub-Niggurath is the dark _goat_ of the woods!

Then you need the Bleet-Go in your next game (also known as the Fungi
from Ewegoth). Or how about Byasheep? Moon Bleets? Sheartaks? I take it you
did the Sheep Spawn of Lambthulhu already...

Obviously someone was conf-ewe-sed about that. Sheep-Niggurath.

Baa-thulhu, but yes. However, I'm not planning to do more FMA Sheep
unless I get an irresistable inspiration.

This year was Jon Mark's third convention and, I believe, second year playing
the Cheese Game.

I played in the Original Cheese game that introduced the whole idea, but never
in any of the follow on events. I can still picture the opponents on the other
side of the table that made the Cheese possible.

Sheesh!!! not one of my pleasant ECC moments...

Usually on the Quote Board people provide a little more context (or, at least,
what game was being played) to go along with the quotes. This year,
very very few did that. :-/ I should have annotated where I at least
knew the game being played).

Forgot two quotes. These were from my FMAS "Castle Wolfenstein" scenario on
Sunday, where the NAC Marines and PA went back to 1944 Germany to stop the
Nazis from acquiring and using 2179 high-tech weaponry in order to win
WWII.

John Lerchey (firing on a NAC Marine): "I got a 2 and a 3." Martin Connell: "I
got a 6." John Lerchey (readying his second action): "Let's do it again!"

John Lerchey (referring to the PA trooper - Sgt Allan Bowden - in close
assault with the Pz IV): "You know, if he kills the panzer we'll have to call
him Allan the Wrench."
