http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lHi All,

Firstly, thanks for all the responses re carrying figures about. The
gent who suggested the two-stage metal tube stands is probably the most
efficient, but I may give the foam packing method a try first, being a person
of more thumbs than fingers when it comes to precision engineering:)

And to Scott Siebold, <As of now my UNSC fleet has finished 76 of 160 ship
stands and 30 of 72 fighter stands>, you are the MAN! My goodness, are you
modeling the various fleets in 1:1 scale??? How many points when 160 ships and
72 fighter groups are done?

Thanks Oerjan for the beta report data request outline, makes it easier
to give you the data you need - I have a friend who is very interested
in the NI fleet as he likes stealthy stuff. BTW, where would you like
playtests posted? Here? To you?

Had my first proper battle against a live opponent on Wednesday. We used the
Vector movement system and thoroughly enjoyed it. Memo to self, don't
accelerate beyond about 3xThrust if you intend to manoeuver! We used an 8x4
table (my wargames table is a particle board flooring sheat) and used a mu of
1cm. At low speeds, manoeuver is painful. The
tendency, then, is to over-accelerate and you shoot off the table!
Weapon ranges seem about right, though. At high accelerations I was reminded
of the old Mad magazine Star Wars gag ("our weapons fire at the speed of
light, and our ships travel at almost the speed of light, therefore, we have
just shot ourselves down!"). The glorious ESU Flotilla 51 successfully
defended most of the convoy against the evil Delta Trianguli separatist
raiding force, the survivors of which were
last seen shooting off the table at V36 in an attempt to sling-shot
around the primary and escape back to their lair. Memo to all pirates: Thrust
2 freighters can dodge, if the enemy is going too fast for more than one shot!

Regards

As for the playtest reports, a great many of those on the playtest list are on
here as well, and while we don't *all* have Oerjan's statistical calculating
ability, we do like ot see the findings as well. Plus I think it
would benefit other folks on this list who want to do/post playtest
reports
to see what other people are doing/reporting. Heck, it could even
generate more discussions (though the playtest list people then have to be
careful not to accidently reply with playtest list stuff here *grin*)

I know the vacc-heads would love this, especially if folks shoot for the
creative 'fluff' so nicely added by Claus and others. However, while it's
certainly not happened yet, the volume could get to the point where the gropos
in the group could get testy.

Be certain to use a subject like '[FT] Beta: NI vs ESU 3000 pt', and it should
be good for all.

Doesn't look like I'll be getting any reports up soon. Had my second game in
as many months a few nights ago, but I can't seem to get others excited about
playing each other.

And they still say 'that's a great game, we've GOT to get something
started...' *sigh*

I've seen it wax and wain over the years on this list, between

And maybe it'll generate more energy by the gropos to do gropo-related
stuff. :-)

But that is a good point about noting in the subject line that the post is
playtest-related. I would lean towards seeing something like
"[FT-Playtest]
<whatever else here>". That'll definitely flag the playtest reports seperate
from everything else. :-)

And as a dual-plug for GZG ECC and DS3, I'll be doing a
showcase/playtest
DS3 game (and possibly an FMA game) at the next ECC. I just haven't written
up the scenario details yet for the ECC website. :-/ But that aside, if
any of you gropos are in the region (and given some people's travel ability,
the
"region" is "Earth" ;-) ), come on by...

I'd originally thought '[FT-Beta] <AAR identifiers>', but fear that
subject-tag creep can get way out of hand. I'll reinstate my suggestion,
as it's even shorter. I think fleet nations' and size are definitely things
that will allow someone to sort the playtest AAR's for comparison.

See? You played right into my hands... ;->=

Good luck on that 'gropo stuff'; wish I could be there.

Here would be fine.

Glad to see that you enjoyed your first "live" battle, BTW! :-)
