a good way of handling political officers in the ESU?

I have two thoughts:

1. All die rolls to receive a charge or charge are upshifted 1 if a P.O is
present.

or (evil)

2. Any failed charge or stand for a charge roll results in one random death in
the squad. Make morale rolls as normal. If the squad is steady or better treat
as if roll made. N.B. If P.O. is the death no morale rolls need be made and
the original roll stands.

Any other suggestions? We just worked up stats for my girlfriends ESU which
include a P.O. in the command squad and the assault squad.

I wouldn't expect a political officer to be in the assault squad, because a)
he's an officer, you're not likely to have more than one per platoon, and b) I
picture a political officer as sending other people to charge, not charging
himself.

Perhaps just give the ESU squad a +1 shift as long as the PO is with the
unit?

http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lIt's good to have
some sort of consequence if the squad fails to rally, like one random rifleman
is eliminated by the commisar and then the squad rallies anyway, just to add
flavor....

1) He can slip on a cup of tea.

2) He can give his life by volunteering to be reactor shielding.

the political officer the political officers hate?:)

I like the Rally rule. I'll see if she will go for that. Although I think
maybe I'll leave it one random squaddy with the political officer included.
Sometimes the "victim" shoots first.

There is one that I used for WWII Russian units (NKVD for that war).

Before a game the basic objective for the game is set (hold position, advance
and take position, etc)and how long that it should take to do it.

The P.O. is controlled by the judge and the judge will move the P.O. up to a
unit that is not meeting it's objective ( falling back if ordered to hold or
holding it's position if orded to advance for example) and force a morale
check (with bonus for P.O.). If the unit fails the check, the commander is
removed (for WWII Russian substitute shot) but if it extremely fails (lowest
possible throw) the P.O. is removed (shot) and unit routs or surrenders.

For the WWII Russian game NKVD unit had motor and machine gun elements to be
able to project it's test but no P.O. bonus on morale check. On the extreme
failure I'd dice off again and have a chance of unit tested attacking NKVD.
