OK I know this sounds crazy but...

Has anyone compiled a list of Full Thrust engagements and their outcomes? It
suddenly occurs to me that we keep chasing our tails trying to figure out if
fighters are more or less than the sum of their capabilities, or whatever.

With a big enough data set (which yes takes a couple years to collect), we
could just run a big logistic regression to predict
probability of winning. All those non-linear relationships could be
identified and factored in.

Just a thought.

Not crazy, but does run up against two issues.

1) FT III playtesters have been asking for AAR's for years; I know that people
ARE trying out new systems, just damn seldom reporting results, even without
the details your plan suggests.

2) I really think OA's analysis is THAT good, not that he doesn't beat the
heck out of his own (mathematic) figures on the board, nor hasn't asked for
others to do the same.

Still, anytime someone makes a balance statement, you can request they back
it up with an AAR. ;->=

Keeping very detailed notes for playtesting is very intrusive. Trying
to do so for a fighter-heavy battle can get very tedious and take up
many pages of paper (about 6 full pages for a battlestars vs. base stars game
I ran once).

I've found that a computer moderated version of a game usually does a good job
of keeping very detailed notes on the action. But I don't know if we've got
enough online FT engines and players to generate the numbers required.

Ok, got double copies again. Tom, please note the 'gzg-l, gzg-l'.

I assume you don't know WHERE that came from, right?

Actually all we'd need is the fleet composition (ship designs +
numbers of ships) for each side and who won.
