Not quite. The weapons (M79, M203, HK79 etc.) are very simple but the cartridges are not. They are a much cleverer and more sophisticated design than a shotgun cartridge using the 'High-Low Pressure System' (copied from a wartime German original) where the gas is retained in the cartridge (high pressure) and carefully bleed into the barrel (low pressure). Irrelevant but interesting. Apparently one of the British ARWEN grenade launcher prototypes was pump action. The sound it made when being stroked was even more intimidating than that from a pump action shotgun. Gyrojet A rocket pistol just sounds good, very Flash Gordon, someone just had to make one. Larry Niven seems to love the things.
