One interesting(ish) thing I noticed about Privateer Press's recent
CMG - the dice:

The set includes:

Red Dice with 1 blank face, 4 faces with 1 'blast' each, and 1 face with 2
'blasts' Blue Dice with 2 blank faces, 3 faces with 1 'blast' each, and 1 face
with 2 'blasts' White Dice with 3 blank faces, 2 faces with 1 'blast' each,
and 1 face with 2 'blasts'

Does that last one sound familiar - yup, its the same as a Full Thrust
beam dice rolled against a target with no screens.

(And in case you're wondering, the dice are rather cheepo quality,
simple cubes with printed faces - and no, they are not available
separately - but there is an accessory pack coming out).

Ok, Cat, meet Pigeons, Pigeons... cat.

The only problem is figuring out how to modify a dice roll so that a "4"
becomes a miss...

I bought the game at GenCon but could only get one starter. I need another
starter pack for my son and I to play it effectively. It's not
exactly deep, but it is a lot of monster-stomping fun...

With these you could probably use a permanent marker - bit tedious if
you're doing a lot of them.

On a tangental note, and I'm sure this has come up somewhere before (probably
from me), but has it been suggested to Jon about having some 'official Full
Thrust beam dice' made? (If someone could come up with
a simple, obvious way of displaying the effects - as you mention, how
do you represent '1 damage unless the target has screens' for example?

The obvious response from a marketing perspective is to make sets of dice for
each shield configuration, and then a set of dice for PDS shooting at
fighters, ADS shooting at fighters... You get the idea.

One method would be to have two symbols on each die side for damage, a Roman
numeral 1, and another roman numeral 1 with a stylized circle around it (or an
empty circle). If you don't have shields, you count up all the numbers on the
side. If you do have shields, you only count the numbers inside the circle.
You could also replace the roman numeral with some other more identifiable
symbol....

I think that that would probably wait (along with a Litko-style set of
tokens for DS and SG) for the rollout of the next version. It's certainly a
great idea.

IIRC it's a US company that thaey used. Â In regards to the design, you get
them made with 3 blank sides and use small multipointed starshapes for the
hits. Â One side has 2 stars 1 side 1 star and 1 side 1 star with an S in it
or next to it. Against a shielded target you then discount hits with the S and
if necessary count the double hits as 1 hit.

Chessex makes custom dice. They dice range from $1 per side for 10 to 25 dice,
to $0.42 per side for 500 to 999 dice. For a thousand or more, they want you
to call for a quote.

So, for 500 dice (and that wouldn't supply 100 avid FT customers), the dice
would cost around $2.50 each, which isn't bad at all for custom dice.
