Right, hopefully that's got the Gropos' attention..... ;-)

Hi all,

We've been up to some interesting stuff recently - but aside from
that, we've also been busy making lovely new things for you to buy!
Yes, I know all the vacc-heads are waiting for the NSL and FSE new
fleets, and they WILL be along very soon, but it's been a long time
since we had any new stuff for you ground-pounders out there. Well,
the wait is over...... In response to many, many requests and comments, we've
done some new 15mm SF vehicles! The range should expand rapidly over the next
few months now it's under way, but to get things started we offer you
three all-new designs - a tracked Battle Tank, a tracked Light Tank
and a quadrepedal walker!

All the models are METAL throughout - no resin here - and are
easy-to-assemble multipart kits, many of which will have alternative
parts included for weapons, sensors etc so that you can customise your forces.
I'm really happy with the way these have come out, and I hope that when you
see them you'll agree that they are some of the nicest 15mm SF armour out
there!

The three launch items are:

V15-01 "Cougar" Main Battle Tank (tracked) - with THREE main gun
choices (Hyperkinetic Cannon, Mass Driver Cannon and BFFG) and THREE
turret-top fitting choices (2 different types of sensor system, or
point-defence tribarrel mount), commander figure and separate hatch
cover. 14 part (including options) all-metal kit. 6.50 GBP each,
or platoon box of 4 for just 24.00 GBP including FREE stowage and accessories
pack!

V15-02 "Puma" Light Scout Tank (tracked) - with two gun choices (RF
Cannon or Fusion Gun), commander figure and separate hatch cover. 8
part (including options) all-metal kit. 4.50 GBP each, or platoon
box of 4 for just 16.00 GBP including FREE stowage and accessories pack!

V15-03 "GunCrab" quad walker with weapons turret (2 alternative guns
included - RF Cannon and Fusion Gun). 9 part all-metal kit. 5.00
GBP each, or platoon box of 4 for just 18.00 GBP including FREE stowage and
accessories pack!

All these have been master-moulded today, and should be put into full
production and ready for sale in the coming week - watch the webstore
(www.gzg.com) for news of availability.

Now, you're probably dying to see some pics, right? Well, this afternoon I
assembled and sprayed the first castings of each model out of the, master
moulds, and as soon as I send this email I'm going to start taking some photos
of them; as I can't post them to the list, is there anyone who would be able
to host them on a suitable site and let the list know where to find them?
Adrian, if you're out there, what about stargrunt.ca, or anyone else? I'll be
sending the pics and press release to Bill at TMP later tonight as well, of
course. Drop me a line offlist if you have somewhere to host the pics so that
everyone can take a look!

I'd be happy to put them onto my web server, and will even dedicate a page to
gzg models if you like.

So, now that you're making new vehicles, will they become available in
6mm??

Thanks!

John,

Your email and Jon Tuffley's arrived in my mailbox at the same time, so I
didn't even get more than a minute to bask in the wonderful glow of news of
new 15mm vehicles before I had to hear you ask if they were going to be
available in 6mm. Don't you have enough choices in 6mm?

Take a look around at 15mm vehicles, there's next to nothing commercially
available for science fiction. Oh sure, you can convert Roco minitanks or use
QRF modern stuff, or paint up some matchbox vehicles, or even scratchbuild.
I'm talking about off the shelf ready to

go type stuff. You've got Old Crow, DLD, Brigade (which is too small in my
opinion unless you're using "true 15's" like Stuart Murray does), oh and one
offering (at present) from GZG. The fact that anyone is doing more 15mm scifi
vehicles is *big news*. The fact that GZG is doing it is

even *bigger news*. I am slightly dissapointed to hear that the first
offerings are tracked vehicles and a walker. I'd love to hear news of K'Vrak
grav tanks and APC's or the OUDF grav stuff in 15mm. I like the "higher tech"
vehicles, as anyone who was nice enough to compliment me on my old Martian
Metals grav tank at GZG ECC IX will tell you. I'm confused as to why Jon is
sculpting new vehicles in 15mm when he's got a

whole bunch of 25's that he could convert.

Next time give us 15mm fans a little breathing room before you jump in
asking about 6mm. 8-)

Thanks for getting these up so quickly, John!

For everyone's info, a few notes to explain the pics might be in order:

I had to do the pics in a great rush, without being able to properly set
anything up, and the couple of desk lamps I used to light the
minis have played havoc with the colours - the sand-sprayed ones look
bright orange, and the ones that look brown are actually a greenish khaki (the
new GW spray "Ogre Flesh", which is an excellent olive
drab colour - grab a couple of tins while their stores still have it)!

Please note also that these are shots of PRE-PRODUCTION castings, and
there may be some minor cleaning up and modification before production moulds
are made, so usual disclaimers apply!

A few notes:

V15-01 Main Battle Tank: The orange-looking one (actually desert
sand!) uses the Mass Driver (MDC) gun barrel and one of the two alternative
sensor units (the other, a spherical radome, is shown in the parts pic).
The brown/khaki one has the HKP barrel and the point-defence
tribarrel fitted. All optional parts are included in all kits.

V15-02 Light Tank: The desert/orange one has the RF Cannon barrel,
and the khaki one the Fusion Gun.

V15-03 Guncrab: This shows the RF Cannon, the same Fusion Gun barrel
as shown on the light tank is also supplied.

Note also that the commander figures are NOT shown in the parts pics
for V15-01 and 02, but these will be included in the production kits.

All comments/requests are being noted, watch out for more new 15mm
soon. There will certainly be more variants to the guncrab, and
probably some more walkers using the same leg assembly - I've got
ideas for a scorpion-shaped vehicle with lots of legs and a raised
"tail" weapons platform.... Some grav vehicles are in the planning stage too,
and probably some hover ones.

As to the requests for scaled-down versions of the 25mm vehicles, I
may do some of these in the future, but the main reason I didn't start with
them is that the sculpting techniques for resins in 25mm and metals in 15mm
are very different, and some of the 25mm designs will be a real pain to do in
15mm! I'm not saying that I won't do them, but I may get some of the new ideas
out first. Much the same argument goes for the 6mm upscaling, but again I
might do some eventually!

All this denegration against my poor Phalon ground troops. I suppose this is
because most SG2 armies are scared stiff to meet them on the table. (Do I
really need to point out that they are masters at baiting the enemy into
encirclements, reaching around the flanks, and attacking them from the rear?)

Since it's probably going to be ages before Jon creates Phalon ground
vehicles, I will just have to polish my wood working techniques and continue
scratchbuilding (I think that's what the kids are calling it these days...)

I could maybe use those walkers with my Phalons, but somehow giving the
Phalons gun crabs just seems... wrong.

Okay, having now opened each of the bags, here's me being picky.

I give the Brigade resin vehicles I've picked up over the years a 4.3 on a
scale of 0-5 (where '5' is absolute perfect - not even the barest amount
of flash to trim). (I give Brigades metal vehicles 4.75). I give DLD vehicles
(also resin) a 4.5.

I give these a 4.9.

I'm glad there are photos online so I can know exactly how the fiddly bits
should be mounted. :-)

For anyone who is familiar with the FOW vehicles, the bodies of the Cougar
and SLAM vehicles (which are the same body) have similar length/width as
the
Tiger 1E tank. They just don't sit quite as high. :-)

They also fit rather nicely on the "large" FoW bases, if you're one of those
folks who like to base vehicles (I do with all my 15mm WW2 stuff). The light
tanks and APCs will fit the medium bases, the
MBT/SLAM and Guncrab on the large ones.

Whereas I'm one who likes my vehicles' treads and tracks to *feel* the
terrain I am requiring them to operate on. :-) No bases for me (for
most things; motorcycles and the like tend to get based, but just so they
don't get knocked over)
