I have 2 questions that I'm hoping you guys can answer.
I'm in the middle of using Adobe to cut up copies of FT, MT, FB1 & FB2 to
build my own '3rd edition'. A few nights ago I came across a web page that
implied a 3rd edition was actively in development, if not imminent. While this
would fit with GZG releasing the 2nd Edition onto the net, I've been unable to
find anything else. To be honest, I can't even find the original reference I
saw (must remember to Bookmark everything of interest, it will not 'be dead
easy to find tomorrow'). Anyone, who's in a position to say
anything, know if there's any truth to this? I'd hate to proudly complete it
for Jon to anounce the release date of the real 3rd edition the following day.
Secondly, I'm trying to come up with a translation to hexes for the cinematic
movement rules. I've tried a few ideas, none of which accurately simulate free
movement, but I'm convinced that this is inevitable given the hex grid and not
a major problem. However, on a similar vein to the first query, I don't want
to come up with a shiny prototype to discover that there's already an accepted
convention. Can anyone provide any pointers.
Thanks,
CJ
Just trying to be the first with the least...
Jon mentioned it about a month ago, with 'subtle' hints of when.
I'm assuming Star Ranger may have blurbed it.
I'll hunt the archives for a better answer.

That would be correct. No actual signed-in-blood promise date that
I've heard, which I expect means you've got at least a few months.

I've considered hexgrid for vector, hadn't thought about it for cinematic (and
hadn't written anything up about it anyway). You'd want
twelve-point movement--ie the ability to move along hex spines as well
as the hex grain--and some means of resolving which hex you're in if
there's any doubt. (which could be "slip to the outside of your turn"
or "if you're ending on a hex spine, roll 1- to slip left, 4-6 to move
right").
And you'd want to compress the scale a bit unless you have a really big hex
map. I'd suggest 2 or 3 mu per hex.

And Jon, how about some Victorian-era starships? In which case we'd
be waiting for the aether bunny.
The puns... So it begins... The horror, the horror...
Course, I wouldn't MIND seeing El-Ahrairah fly into the cold
blackness...

For hex movement, using something like the "Maximum Tech" double blind rules
for Battletech converts easily.
With 3MU/hex(round speed to nearest multiple), MD4 at speed 12, you
write orders like F2P1F2P1.
The ships get slightly larger turns (still 1/2MD in turns), but you can
do *really* fancy manoeuvers.
Say the same with advanced drives: S1F2P2F2S1+2

I didn't say a word about ethersheeps. Nor Bussard rams.

Sorry LL, you got the wrong company. Try Tony Francis at Brigade Models
instead; they've already got aether fliers in production...

Is it just me, or does the EA Hyperion cruiser from B5 look like it could

Jon doesn't have any yet. That means I can't spend money on them. If
I looked at Tony's site--either the aeronefs or perhaps the Iron Stars
minis--I might end up buying them.
