Those of you who play DSII may be interested to hear that we've just got the
first DSII Infantry Walker mini from the sculptor! It is a
mini-mecha
about 15mm tall, with a passing resemblance to the VOTOMS designs (well, OK
then, a CLOSE passing resemblance.... <grin>). This, of course, means that
it will even pass as a 6mm Heavy Gear-type mech, as that game is heavily
VOTOMS-inspired anyway.....
Sculpted by Tim Prow (ex-Heartbreaker, now freelancing for us and
others) -
a second type is now being worked on, plus there will be pose/weapon
conversions available in due course (probably as a mixed pack of 5 or 6 at our
usual UK 6mm pack price of £2.25). These should be in full production and
available for sale in a couple of weeks.

Out of curiosity, will these be coming over to the US in (fairly) short order,
or should I just slap an order down from the UK? KR?

Cool. ^_^ I like *small* robot/walker type critters; they aren't quite
as ridiculous as the BTech mecha or Titans. Yay!

Hrm. Interesting. I might pick a few up for the cool factor, but I'm
not sure where they'd fit into a force structure--it's a nifty idea for
a mini, but as someone pointed out in the DSII rulebook, a bad idea from a
logical standpoint.

I'd rather use Powered Armor--they have the supreme advantage of being
fired on as infantry, and hence not vulnerable to some loony with an
MDC-5 at 6km. But then again, it takes some houserules to give PA a
20mm RFAC-1 like the ESU uses.

KR is due a masters package from us very soon, and these should be in it, but
it is then up to his casting people and the US distribution system as to when
they get released. Remember the US system demands long lead times for product
solicitation.

One advantage that Infantry Walkers enjoy in ds2 is that they're the only
vehicles that can be orbitally inserted - so I send them along with my
orbitally inserted PI as fire support vehicles. They also have more
versitile (sp?) weapon-mounting systems than most Size 1 vehicles.
My orbital assault PI companies are formed as follows:
3x PI Platoon: 4 bases PI rifles, 1 base PI GMS/L ea.
2x Inf. Walker Platoon: 2 GMS/H walkers, 1 MDC/2 walker ea.
I use Scotia MicroModels' PI & Infantry Walkers - very nice minis all.

Please don't tell me your kidding..... Last night I got caught up in
one of my many Sci-Fi brainstorming sessions (it was a slow night at the
video store). I was thinking about the feasabilty of the infantry combat
walkers and concluded that theoretically they wouldn't be around
for maybe the next 25-50 years. Have we really come THAT far THAT fast?

Don't get too excited. The US Army has a _lot_ of projects going, for
Force XXI (the Army of 2000-2020 time period), Army After Next
(Mid-21st century) and IIRC, some theoretical work on the next major
revision. Without knowing more about the above proposal, who knows when, or
if, it will be fielded. The Force XXI infantry projects are
much less ambitious--some body armor, computors, a neato helmet with
built-in sights and most of that stuff still doesn't work yet.
