............................
Hi all,
The following NEW items will be launched at Salute this Saturday (21st);
they'll be up on the webstore next week for online ordering. We'll have stock
of all these at the show, plenty of the NSL ships but probably only a very
limited number of the new 15mm vehicles, so if you're coming along then come
and see us as early as you can!
For the New-style NSL fleet:
FT533 Light carrier (CVL) £7.00 FT534 Heavy carrier (CVH) £12.00
FT535 Missile Destroyer (DDM) - pack of 2 £2.50
FT536 Assault Transport (LSO) £5.00 FT537 Escort Carrier (CVE) £4.00 FT539
Strike carrier (CVS) £9.00 FT540 Heavy battleship (BBH) £6.00 FT546 Light
Cruiser (CL) variant type £2.00 FT547 Escort Cruiser (CE) variant type £2.50
FT551 New Light Fighters (pack of 6) £1.00 FT552 New Heavy Fighters (pack of
6) £1.00
This effectively completes the new-style NSL fleet, though we may add
just a few more odd classes and variants (support ships, variant fighter types
etc) at some point soon.
PLUS.... as the vacc-heads have had it their way for the last few
batches of releases, something for the (15mm) ground-pounders again!
We've JUST completed and moulded an all-new HIGH TECH GRAV TANK (in
15mm); when we did the first Grav releases last year, we said that
they represented the "early" applications of grav tech - and we
promised that some more cutting-edge vehicles would follow. So,
here's the first - great for higher-tech forces such as the UNSC
hardsuit troopers. APCs and other variants to follow soon, but we
wanted to get this first one out for the show! A 10-part (including
options) all-metal kit, with choice of 3 different gun barrels, 2
different sensor fits or laser point-defence system!
Plus at the other extreme (almost), we have a cute little
civilian/military hover pickup truck, ideal for supply hauling or
carrying around heavy weapons teams for your lower-tech or militia
forces; it comes in 2 parts with 2 alternative driver figures (in helmet and
field cap).
V15-18A High-Tech Grav Tank (complete with all options) £8.00
each
V15-19A Light Hovertruck (with 2 driver figures) £3.00
each
More pics of everything will be up on our webstore soon!
Hope to see some of you on Saturday.

Any plans on having different designs for the different nations (any scale)
like you do with Full Thrust?
But we want them in 6mm!:) 6mm 6mm 6mm 6mm...
Ok, I'll stop now. But I still want them in 6mm.:)

6mm is good too, but at least there's already a good choice in that scale. I
have a nice NSL force for Dirtside, which is entirely Grav. I still haven't
decided how I'm going to replicate the same design doctrine in 25mm for
Stargrunt, since 25mm has no Grav tanks.

I'd actually be quite interested to hear other peoples' opinions on
this - unlike the Starships, for the ground stuff (whether it be in
15mm, 25mm or 6mm) I've tended to keep away from saying "this mini is a UNSC
(or NAC, NSL, whatever) tank", because I think it tends to railroad SOME
people into the "I don't do that army, so I can't use that mini" mindset. I'd
rather that folks felt free to use just whatever they like when they build
their armies up. What do you think about it? Would you rather have everything
tied down to "official" stuff?

Nope, don't do this. Enough companies do this, and I think it is enough you
bring out nice vehicles and let people themselves decide which to use for what
army. I think just having army specific infantry is good enough to make
different armies recognizable.

Glad you agree, Frits, because that's always been my way of thinking; and also
it means that while we're steadily building up the range, we don't have people
badgering at us with things like "I'm only collecting Free CalTex, when am I
going to get some
tanks/APCs/whatever for my army...!?" ;-)
I'm still interested to hear any other (contrary?) opinions though.....

Dunno if this is "contrary" -- and I'm probably the last person who
should express such an opinion, given that I'm a complete vacc-head,
with almost no interest in Gropos at all, save as ortillery targets <g>
-- but one "solution" to the problem of generic-vs-specific lines for
vehicles would be to do a series of brief encyclopedia-like entries for
each human power describing their ground fighting doctrine, e.g., "the NSL, on
the ground as in space, favours heavy armour and big guns at the
expense of mobility, except in specified recon units." This gives a player who
wants such info the basis on which to build an army according
to taste and their interpretation of the description. For instance, I'd expect
an NSL army, on the basis of what I wrote above, to use tracked or wheeled
AFVs (including tanks) rather than hover or grav chassis, but
YMMV, and a player might decide that the NSL would go in for high-tech
stuff and so use grav tanks except for the really BIG NeuPanzers and
SPGs, and leave the wheels and tracks to the more low-tech powers (like,
say, the ESU?).
I think that would be a reasonable arrangement that allows GZG to sell generic
vehicles and players who want to have a specific army to select those minis
that they see as fitting the TOE of their chosen force. Of course, it could be
said that people could do that anyway, but if there's a demand for info about
the GZGverse powers, then this is one way to do it without getting too bogged
down in Official Details (TM).

I saw the new NSL ships at Salute, and they look _really good_ -
especially the carriers. The photos don't do them justice. (Though a friend of
mine was heard to mutter "more and more like Sulaco every
day". :-)

I think Jon's already done the 1-2 vehicles per nation thing, at least
for the main four. Noted in StarGrunt II. While not what I would have picked,
the Paladin and Phalanx for the NAC, for example, and Gauntlet for the NSL
(iirc).

Stupid vacchead idea, but how about 'official' national add-on kits?
Just
enough to change/regularize the silhouettes, these could be small run,
'spensive items.
Have to be, as they'd be almost as difficult sculpts, though I'd assume the
castings would be far smaller.
Only other idea with which I can come up would be 'official' paint guides,
with shading substituting for the extra rails, fins, blisters, and boxy ridges
I imagine for the kits above.
Returning to the quiet of space, now.

I'd keep it as is but, say 1 or 2 nation specific vechicles would be nice, but
unit transfers for the main Stargrunt nations would be good, as they
would make my models look more real.
