Ok this may be old new's but, I thought it was pretty close to our own much
loved Tuffey verse, so I just thought I would post it to see what everyones
thought's were, also, I'm wondering what the other setting is, Hey they now
own the right to do Traveller, with Mr Millers consent.

So that could be it.

The first, provisionally entitled Emergence, charts Mankind's first manned
explorations into the Solar System, where the supernations of the Earth
compete for territory and resources. It is a great deal lower tech than
Babylon 5, and we are working hard to give each nation a distinctive 'look'
with some really nice miniatures. We are aiming to make the fleet lists
compatible with those in Babylon 5, allowing you to switch between the two
settings at will.

We have also just started negotiations on another licensed setting for A

Call to Arms, one that will feature some awesome space battles, spread across
several different fleets. Even though it uses the same rules as the current
CTA, this game will play very, very differently. The technology in this
setting is... different to that in B5!

Emergence has no solid release date planned, though we are currently looking
at the end of 2008 - that said, it could easily be leapfrogged by the
'other' setting, which I think some gamers will be prepared to kill for..."

P.s Jon, santa say's i've been good and had only one dummy spit this year in
Fullthrust, Dont worry i bashed the rule's into my opponent, so next time he
knows how to use long range missiles correctly, but is Santa bringing me a
copy of Fullthrust 3, i'm not asking for me but for the other orphans.

I strongly suspect that you are right and this will be Traveller space combat,
which will rather step on the toes of Ken at Ad
Astra.... :-/

Emergence sounds a bit like the "Turning Point" setting that AoG came out with
just before they collapsed; maybe it will be a rehash of that grafted onto CTA
rules....?

> P.s Jon, santa say's i've been good and had only one dummy spit this

When I saw Santa last week, he was in the middle of his move from the North
Pole to Kyrgystan*; I gave him big box of FT3 for all the
best-behaved gamers, but it may have got lost in the move....

[Hey, if you believe in Santa maybe you'll believe that, too....]

;-)

Jon (GZG)

* Recently heard on the radio that someone with a computer and too much time
on his hands has worked out that Kyrgystan (or however you spell it) would be
the best place for Santa to live in order to facilitiate his Christmas Eve
deliveries to all kids in the world, given the distribution of population, the
Earth's rotation etc....

I'm still certain it may be traveller, but further reading of the " State of
mongoose" has me thinking it may be Battlestar Galatica, cause they state that
they have a star wars variant of ACTA, that is not going to be released, and
this new variant of the rules seems fighter based, I dont think it could be
Wing commander but, hey, if it aint thrust then I'm not really worried.

Cause jon said santa has my copy of Fullthrust 3.

P.s one of my flying pigs landing gear is broken.lol

Good save, my man, cuz you don't EVEN want to mention BDS... *duck*

Come to think of it, Allan? Did you ever get any playtest? *duck again*

So, James, have you sent in any AAR's for provisional FT3? *duck, thrice*

BDS? Huh. I got a copy of it. Hiro Nakamura dropped if off to me the other
day. Didn't say when he brought it from, though, but it looks good!

Now to get in some games....and see if there's ANYone out there...ANYone at
all...who might remotely be interested in it.

Good job, Jon! Was worth the wait! :-D

I'm very sorry. I was going to photocopy it (so I could have a copy at work
AND at home) but found the copier was on the fritz. So put it down at home and
thought I'd get to it later. Then the cats mercilessly peed all over it
while I was out. It's unsalvageable. :-(

It did look real nice, though, Jon!

No haven't sent in any AAR's, as I have enough trouble bashing rules into
player's as it is, It seem's the more letter's you have after your name the
more you tend to read 50 variant's of the same rule.

Personally I'm happy with the way the rules work at the moment, I like to keep
it simple and fun, but tactic's should play a part too, as well as fleet and
ship choice, as for chance and luck, well bad dice roll's are bad dice roll's.

But like everyone I have many AAR's but it's hard to pick the best, as in the
which one best reflects what I think space combat would be like, and at the end
of the day I don't like rules races.

They haven't changed the core rules of risk yet but they have made many game
setting variant's for risk, and I think with that in mind, that's what
fullthrust 3 should be about.

Greetings:

I forwarded the original message to Ken Burnside of Ad Astra and he replied...

"If I were to lay bets on this, I'd say it's Star Trek. If I'm wrong, I still
have the rights to sell Traveller minis to 2010, and Mongoose can sell more of
them for me by accident than I'll manage to get through the current idiocy of
distribution."

That's possible, given that Decipher just lost the license to the RPG.

The question is whether or not it's worth picking up an expensive license from
Paramount (and Paramount is infamous for being a royal pain to deal with).
They don't have a current TV product, but they're expecting big things from
the "young Kirk" movie (Star Trek XI).
