Hey, this is Brian Bilderback (3B^3) Back on list. I had some
questions/observations regarding miniatures:
1. Though I still don't play SG, I've recently gotten into using 25 mm minis
for the D20 Future RPG, and my first purchase was of the GZG door gunner.
While I've heard for some time that 25mm is ostensibly
1/72 scale, I've noticed that when compared to non-gaming models, this
figure is closer in size to the 1/48 scale stuff.
2. Has anyone seen the Mongoose Publishing minis for Starship Troopers? How do
they compare to the GZG minis in size?
3. Has anyone seen the DP9 Fleet Scale minis? They're supposed to be
1/350, not 7mm, but how close do they come to working in Dirtside,
especially alongside the small-medium sized GZG 7mm stuff?
4. I know a lot of people use the old DP9 Heavy Gears as Walkers in Stargrunt,
but I picked up a batch of the new smaller minis for a song
in the local gaming store's bits box, and they seem well-suited to use
as 25mm PA troopers.
5. I see Mongoose has also revived the B5 ship lines. How does the casting
quality compare to the old days?
That's all for now, thanks.

1/72 is about 20mm, hence the many WW2 (etc.) wargamers who mix 20mm
minatures with 1/72 scale plastic kits.
Based purely on the height 25mm would be about 1/64 but as wargames
minis tend to be 'chunky' the often look better with slightly larger scale
vehicles.

They're 28mm and hence larger than the GZG minis. But bugs are bugs...

I stand corrected.

So I've noticed. I got a 1/48 mm USMC LAV off of ebay for a song and
I'm busy kit-bashing it for sci fi.

And since I'm more interested in the walkers that the infantry, I'm ok with
that. But noted, I'll not bother with the infantry.

Most 25mm stuff is around 1/60th scale. Of course the closer you get to
Games Workshop stuff, the closer it start to be to 1/48th. Sadly,
1/60th
scale models are kind of rare.

They're more in teh 28mm-30mm range. They're big.

If you think they look good for it, then I say go right ahead.:)
That's all I can answer about.

I was curious about exactly what scale 25mm was and according to the
cross reference guide at "The Miniatures Page" it should be 1/64th. If
that is true then we (gamers) should be in luck because a number of the
diecast cars out on the market roughs out to 1/64th (Johnny Lightning,
Matchbox, Hot Wheels, etc). But I guess the real question is how does
the figure look compared to the car - does it look like it could climb
inside it and drive/fly/sail it away.
Maybe gamers should get Key fobs designed with a figure attached to the end so
anytime we are in a store we can just whip out our keys and do a quick spot
check.
