Excellent point! It really helps to have simple rules and set up, but the GM
needs to keep the pace up.

Going back to the Aliens board game I run, I tend to be easy on players, such
as no 'bonus bug' rule and fairly forgiving on LOS, but I always point out
that it's supposed to be a fast game. In the beginning instructions, I hold
the threat of dropping a bug on anyone who does any strategy talking, or long,
thoughtful planning during their turn.

So far, I've never had anyone complain about it, all players seeming to
appreciate that the games keep moving.

I've quoted him before, but it so warms my heart to repeat it, I will. One
player, when asked if the game was fun, promptly stated 'It is the way he runs
it.'

A question that's GZG-specific: I've always disliked rolling to hit,
then
to wound/kill, then to save, as being time consuming. Admittedly,
table-lookups can be more time consuming. How do most people find
contested die rolls and chit pulling for speed? How about the roll table
replacement for chits?

I like the contested die roll myself. Drawing chits or looking stuff up on a
table can steal momentum from a game.

I'm a big fan of the contested die roll as well. It just makes me feel like
I'm actively defending my troops.:)

Forgive this vacc-head: DSII uses both contested die AND chit pull,
right? Does SG? Been quite awhile for me.

No, SGII uses a dice based system.

G'day,

> A question that's GZG-specific: I've always disliked rolling to hit,

I like both systems. Chit pulls give you more combos with little mental
expenditure, but require that you have people who can put chits away properly
(we do so have had no troubles, from what I've seen on the net others have not
been so fortunate).

Opposed die rolls can be faster so long as they're aren't too many needed.

Having played chits and alternative die rolling resolutions for DS I'd say
they both work fine, I personally like the chit pulls more and have found them
easier to teach to kids, but I can live with die rolling DS too, it usually
just takes a bit more mental flexing;)

Cheers
