[GZG] Imperium (GDW/AP) ships as FT SSD's

Digging through disk space, I've found some SSD's that seem to be related to
the old Imperium box game. However, the ships include SM load outs, and no
fighters.

First, does anyone know from whence these came?

I'm still debating whether the SM's work as the long range weapons indicated
in Imp, though the heaviest beams in these ships are class 3, while extended
range SM's can be placed at the same 36 mu's, and run a further 6 mu's as
well.

The lack of fighters and carriers is a little more problematic; I was just
wondering if these may have been designed at the same time as the SSD's I've
got.

I've actually played two games of FT in less than a month, and may have a new
aficionado in the making; I'd REALLY like to give him something like a real
campaign to sink teeth into.

FT-Traveller conversion is now the Power Projection game. I seem to
recall seeing the author of the Imperium SSDs being active on the Power
Projection mailing list (also on Yahoo), you might want to stick your nose in
over there. PP is a fairly heavily tweaked FT, comes with campaign rules and
High Guard conversion rules. Ad Astra is now selling Imperial and Zhodani ship
miniatures, that may be of some interest as well.

Beastie,

Can you post an image? And clarify what you want to know exactly?

I've got Imperium on my shelf (next to Dark Nebula, Belter, FFW, AHL,
Snapshot, Invasion Earth and Tarsus... I still need to get a copy of
Beltstrike). If you want me to crack it out to answer a question of some type,
just be a bit more clear for me.

Thanks, Michael. I've both Fleet and Escort. I was looking for 'vanilla' FT
2.5, though that's almost an oxymoron. ;->=

Got the files moved to the web:

Mr.Drake, if you do work up a full set of SSD's for Imperium, let me
know. ;->=

As for the Avalanche Press version, I'm sure sorry I didn't pick up several
during the Viking Pyre sale at $5US...

If you make it to one of the big cons this year, you can probably find it for
about $10US. I think I saw it amongst Titan Games piles.

Thanks Beast. :-) I haven't picked up my old Imperium game in....well,
a very very long time (other than for when I moved last year). Just seeing the
silhouettes makes me want to break it back out and play it again - but
with
the FT SSDs! :-D

Whoops! I found the motherships! Were these the only ones with fighters? I've
misplaced my original Imperium, and just have the AP version to look at, until
such time as I make the perilous trek to the even more perilous storage shed.

Cool, thanks. I'll have to compare what you've got with the counters in the
original game, see if you might have missed any. :-)

While it's nice to have validation of my services as a pack rat, all praise,
and blame, must ultimately go to the noble one who first drew these
up. Also, still waiting for someone to try some non-SM missle designs,
and
to compare the SSD's to game units. ;->=

Thanks back at ya!

PS Mark Drake, if you do get that copy of Imperium 3rd Millenium (Avalanche
Press), let me know if you can rescue the tactical 3d grid as an operational
game, with each cube as a tactical battlespace. I tended never
to get in battles large enough to suggest/need breaking up, but it
seemed like it COULD happen...

think I have 2 versions, one the early GDW (1977?) and a later GDW (1998?). I
think I have the JTAS article that filled in the planets too
