The Holy Roman Empire is based on the Papal States of the Renaissance.
It is a break-away union from the FSE. I will leave it up to "staremu"
to write the background history based on his original idea for Nova Roma.
The military rankings are based on Catholic Church hierarchy. Ranks of ratings
are called Acolyte 3rd, 2nd, & 1st Class. Petty Officers & Warrent Officers
are called Father. Ensign & Lieutenant grades are called Monsignor. Commanders
are called Bishop, Captain is Archbishop, & the Admiral ranks are called
Cardinal.
The main opponent to the HRE is the FSE, since they are a break-away
union. HRE is belligerent to predominately non-Catholic nations, and
they are allied with Knights of St.John & predominately Catholic nations like
LLAR, Confederation of Celtic States, & New Irish Republic.
The "unoffical" fleet roster for the HRE follows closely with the FSE
roster - http://www.bcpl.net/~indy/full-thrust/fse_roster.html - with
renamed battle groups...

Colonial Fleet Divine Wisdom Divine Truth Raphael Raquel Michael Immutable

And to translate the classes of Imperial ships found at
http://www.table-top-warriors.com/FT_ImperialNavy.htm with the classes
on the roster...
CVA = Emperor CVL = Griffon SDN = Retribution BDN = Dictator BB = Overlord BC
= Dictator CA = Lunar, Gothic, Dominator, or (gulp) Whirlwind
CE+ = (doublegulp) Protector
CE = Defender CLG = Endeavor CL = Dauntless
DD/B = Firehawk
DDH = Firestorm DD = Sword FF = Viper, Cobra, or Copperhead
CT = copy of Athena class corvette with the 2 class-1's replaced with a
foreward 3-arc class-2 & the SMP replaced with a 2nd PDS
Scout = copy of Mistral class scoutship with the 2 class-1's replaced
with a foreward 3-arc class-2

You're talking about two different entities.
The HRE was predominantly German--in fact, the full name was the "Holy
Roman Empire of the German Nation". It did include parts of northern Italy at
one point but Rome was never the center of temporal power for the Empire,
and it was ruled (more or less--mostly less) by the Emperor rather than
the Pope. The Papal States included parts of Italy (and a bit of France, for a
while) in which the Pope had temporal authority. At one point (1100-1300
or so, IIRC) the PS were de facto under control of the HRE, but even then the
PS were nominally independent.

And a ship named "Dictator"?
Greetings Karl Heinz
Change it to Legate.
Yes, "Patrimonium Petrl" is a better name for the nation - I chose Holy
Roman Empire for the name because the real Holy Roman Empire was neither holy,
Roman, nor an empire. The ecclesiastical naming of the ratings
gave some character to the ranks - You can almost see how the uniform
standard would play out. As for the rest, "staremu" gave me the
inspiration for this - I leave it up to him to flesh out the background.
"Dictator" is a Battle Fleet Gothic designation for that class of ship. What
that class of ship is called in the Tuffleyverse is something more appropriate
to the ecclesiastical nature of the nation.

Unfortunately, some of those stars have already been allocated.

Why move it? Put them both there--it'll give them something to fight

We accept system BD+11.383 as the See of the Patrimonium Petrl, and
allow free transit to ships bearing the flag of the Common Republic.
We also have an interest in system BD-01.565 and also wish to establish
an oceanic agricultural mission on the 2nd planet of BD-02.0690 AKA
Ikthyos. And from this, we offer a portion of the agricultural output for
export to the Common Republic.
And we also are interested in establishing agricultural missions on New New
Detroit & Pivot, and also offer a portion of the output for export to the
Common Republic.
We humbly ask for free transit through the systems of New New Detroit & Pivot
in the form of patrol responsibilities. In so far as the Patrimonium Petrl can
draw resources from predominatly Catholic nations like the LLAR, Confederation
of Celtic States, & New Irish Republic, the Papal High Guard boasts of a fleet
nearly as large as the FSE, and this would go a considerable way in
discouraging the FSE from engaging in incursions that are counter to the
interests of the Common Republic & the Petrl as well.
We reguard these terms to be agreeable, and look foreward to a positive return
correspondence.

The Common Republic has no claim to this system, and welcomes trade.
> And we also are interested in establishing agricultural missions on New
Pivot has no agricultural capacity (as it was initially set to be an
uninhabitiable system, but a central one. It's dissapearance from the current
map is all the more fitting thusly) and has no planets capable of said without
much terraforming.
> We humbly ask for free transit through the systems of New New Detroit &
The Common Republic politely refuses such patrol issues, as we are a client
state of the FSE, and have some considerable yard capacity. Our own forces,
while not comparable to yours or the FSE's, is more than capable of maintaning
order in our systems. We provide second and third line designs for the FSE
navy, and they assisted us when we were in conflict with the nascent New
Detroit Republic (backstory coming one
day). We thusly have no need for anti-piracy patrol. We also have used
the BD+11.383 system as a trans-shipment point for our completed
products to the FSE. However, we may consider concluding an agreement with the
separatists to use the Delta Triangulai system. Our actual relationship is
somewhat strained, as we are the end result of a colony mission of
nonconformists from the FSE. Still loyal, but loyal in opposition. It is...
complicated. This being said, we have our own political alignment, and we also
do not condone FSE adventurism in our backyard, much less at potential trading
partners.
We are willling to have concurrent naval visits, perhaps of a squadron of our
ships visiting your ports, and a squadron of yours visiting ours.
See http://members.shaw.ca/victor-daivon/CRfleet.html for fleet
specifications. At present the Shark and Volcano are in prototype stages, but
are expected to be in service eventually.
We await your reply...
With the Common Republic acting as a buffer between us and the FSE, the
health, wealth, & safety of the Patrimonium Petrl greatly benefits from it's
benevolent friendship with the Common Republic.
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we bless
thee and ask Almighty God for continuing peace & prosperity for
our nations & our on-going commercial aspirations.

Just out of curiocity, what map layout are you all using? I know the IJN is
boarding the FSE as well, could make for an interesting set up of future
games..
