Hi everyone,

Here's hoping everyone had a nice holiday season.

You all helped out a lot with my last question about painting, thanks.

Here's another question for you:

What's a good way to 'break' a superglue bond?

I have some ships on metal poles and bases that I would like to reorient. I'd
like to break the glue at either where the pole connects with the ship, or
where it goes into the base socket. Then I can reorient the ship on the base.

Any suggestions? Heat? Acetone? Just crank it?

Thanks a bunch.

I believe Acetone works, but use it sparingly. It can discolor fabrics and mar
finishes. Acetone can be found in nail polish remover.

Here's a website that might help:

Actually what I have heard is Cold. Pop the mini in the freezer for a while
and when you pull it out, either the superglue is brittle or the metal
contracts differently than the glue, and the bond is easy to break.

Disclaimer: I have not tried this myself.

You can buy super glue debonder. From what I've seen, it's pretty much
acetone. I have some, and I have acetone, and they work about the same except
that the debonder comes in a spray bottle and is about an order of magnitude
more expensive.

You have to be careful, as it _will_ lift paint.

the acetone or cold (freezer) suggestions seem promising. Cyanoacrylate glue
is inherently brittle, much more so than epoxy at any rate, so putting it in
the freezer for a few hours is worth a shot if you're worried about using
acetone.

attest to the cold option. I once left a case of minis in the car all day on a
overcast winter day, where the temps didn't get above freezing. That evening
during play, things were breaking off all over the place.
