D'oh!

Thanks, Germ! I'd seen the individual packs before, but didn't think to check
back with Hobby Link Japan to see if the 'master collection' was there.
Hmmm... about $100USD more there.

Any comments on Mandrake as a store, anyone?

I really can't afford $600-700 plus shipping from Japan, but I really do
love that show!

PS Allan, sorry couldn't make the connection in Indy! Trip turned out a
massive downer for me, and I didn't have the excuse of rabid/psycho
elevator. Hope your lad had a better time thereafter. My daughter
discovered, after all these years of Larp-ing Vampires, is a Werewolf.

Because I don't love you that much? ;-)

Beautiful ships. Too bad they don't sell singles. They'd be totally worth it.
Be a great way to get new players to join too. Too bad Jon doesn't have the
resources to get prepainted mini's down to this price point. I'd bet his would
look better...

Zandris IV is working on some ships with a similar style.

These are the older Yellow Sub casts. They're made out of the semi-hard
plastic that the clickytech stuff is made of. They also don't have a
-great- amount of detail.

For a better set, I'd suggest checking out
http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?Maker1=WRS&MacroType=ComMod&GenreCode=Sci&D
is=2 It's broken into smaller segments, so it is cheaper. However they don't
offer ALL the ships that the big package has. But on the flip side, the
quality of detail and paint job are both FAR better.

I'll wait for Zandris and collect them as they are released and support a fine
craftsman at the same time!

As you said before, though 'similar style' makes some difference: Zandris IV
is working on some ships with a similar style.

Also, the IV is important; search zandrisiv.

I'm not as fond of the designs I've seen so far, but that's only from
pictures. Impressive paint instructions...

I found Slyvester's comments very useful, though. Hard to tell about
composition from piccies, and I'm glad for that info. I've also considered the
Wright Stuff, especially when someone mentioned dropping the six or seven
large ones all at once. I held back pointing them out as I knew someone would
point out the per ship price difference, and now, perhaps, we know why.

Thanks, all!

Beastie,

I dropped the IV because I had already mentioned it in a previous post. His
current line of ships is not LoGH style, but he has shown a few prototypes on
TMP that he does plan to go to production with and those look very close,
close enough in fact that they would blend in well with the actual ships, I'd
imagine. I've never really felt the need to have the exact ships, just
somethign wit hthe same style.

What is the "Wright Stuff" you mention? I am sure if any of us calculated our
collections o na per ship basis the total price would near that of the
complete collection, but I also know that most of us acquired them in smaller
lots over time.

Yes, but we list folk are short of memory in such things... ;->=

> His current line of ships is not LoGH style, but he has shown

Missed that on TMP; I'll look back. I've been trying to bash some disposable
shaver handles into something similar, so I guess I can't be TOO
picky...

Sorry, the first HJL link given by whomever (see? I forgot already)

http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?SeriTxt1=&GenreCode=All&MacroType=All&Scale
=12000&Dis=-2

included both the Yellow Submarine (which included the Master Collection I
found on Mandrake) and the Wright Stuff stuff.

The Beastly one (I don't do rap...)

Ah, you are right. Never bothered to look at the manufacturers. LoTG is an
expensive series to get into. Even the DVDs for ths series are pretty out
there!

Most everything out of Japan seems to be; I got a bunch of the Konami Star
Trek stuff that wasn't, but that seemed the exception that proved the rule.

LoTG was a long time cult classic, only available on grainy VHS with
fan-supplied subtitles, shown at college club functions. Then, the
Chinese bootlegs showed, with 'all your base are belong to us' level of
dialog. I think you can still find these on eBay, but be forewarned.

When the official-for-English videos came out, I saw the prices and just
stood there with my jaw on the floor. *sigh*

We fans are a long suffering lot.

For those wanting to see the fansubs (they HAVE been working on them) in

their non-grainy glory go to http://a.scarywater.net/ca/ for the torrent

files.

Additionally, they still haven't been officially released in North America.
The idea was floated with an online petition regarding the cost

of the full series, but IIRC the entire idea died then and there.

Personally, I have sets 1-7 of the Wright Staff stuff (no, not Stuff.
Staff) as well as a few yellow sub bits, and the quality is night and day. The
castings are excellent, the paint jobs are crisp and nicely detailed and
perhaps would only need some delicate touchup if anything.

The reason I don't support Zandris on this is because his ships will sadly be
out of scale with the Wright Staff and Yellow sub models by a good ways, which
isn't something that makes me overly happy. Had he done

a scale that matched up with the Imperial Battleship I would be happily
throwing him plenty of cash. Oh well...

masters-in-process, and I must say, close enough indeed!
