I hope it's not *too* tasteless to mention someone else's minis on a GZG list,
but a friend sent me link to the Cold Navy web site, and I find their "Terran
Republic Navy" ships horribly tempting:
http://estore.xtreme-hobby.com/coldnavy.html#trn
1. Has anyone on the list seen these minis, and/or had any dealings
withe Xtreme Hobby? If so, I'd appreciate any comments please. If they're
libellous, you could send them to me privately:)
2. As well as various gun turrets, all the TRN ships above frigate class seem
to be equipped with one or more of what Col. Jack O'Neill would undoubtedly
describe as "Honkin' great space guns" mounted spinally. Any thoughts on what
these should be?
Sorry, don't have time to do the search myself, but they've been mentioned on
the list, though I don't think all your questions answered. Give the archives
a peek.

If there wasn't a post on Cold Navy just prior to my reply, please ignore my

The GZG - East Coast Convention contacted Xtreme Hobby regarding their
figures for convention gaming prizes last year and we received a number of
samples from them. We have established a good relationship with them.
They are very nice figures, with sharp details and designs.
Front arc only Grasers would be suitable weapons for the TRN. Or a Kinetic
Gun.

Sorry, again.

I'm a big fan of th CN ships. I started Mauridian and now have a set of
Kharadorn as well. The Terrans are played in force by one of my friends here
in town.
Xtreme is pretty responsive to constructive crit with their minis, and have
been tireless with respect to assuring a steady pipeline to customers. Now
that they have a new, stable molding contractor and the minor
crits have been addressed the so-called Wave 1.5 shipz
are _very_ pretty.
_I_ can't wait for the Deisho release.

And, they're currently on sale right now, until July 31st. I just bought some
myself, I saw them at

couple.

They are very nice to deal with. They also improved quality a lot with the

crisper, the bigger Terrans were pretty bad on the underside but now look
great.
They gave the wave 1.0 customers a really good deal on the wave 1.5 ships, and
I am really happy I took advantage of that deal(even better than the current
sale). I just sold off my wave 1.0 terrans on ebay and only made a slight loss
(Aside from BFG there isn't much of a market for spaceships on ebay it seems).
All in all, great service,

The Mauridians are cool, but the Kharadorn look a bit wacky to me.

So what does he make the spinal mount weapons? For that matter, what do you
install in your Mauridian Ba'Rada Class Frigate (the flying assault rifle)?
I broke down and bought some TRN ships before the end of their introductory
offer (I'm so weak!), so I've been messing about with some possible designs.
I started out by looking at the pics on the Cold Navy website and deciding
that "gun turrets" with four "barrels" would be part of a Class 3 beam
battery, those with three Class 2 and two Class 1. The batteries would be made
up of one or more turret, depending on fire arcs etc.
The spinal mount "guns" on the destroyer, cruiser and battlecruiser look
similar, so I decided they should be of the same basic type, in this case
Class 3 k-guns. The spinal weapons of the Conquest look different, and a
note on the website suggests these are "particle somethings", so I went for
a massive beam battery for long range fire support :-/
BTW, the points totals given below are NPV/CPV.

Xtreme Hobby makes and sells the Cold Navy minis, highly recommended.

Lemme echo Dean regarding Xtreme Hobby. I ordered some of the Pig Iron
infantry from them and they showed up fast.
Don't forget the excellent coverage on Dean's site; not a bad first place to
look for similar questions on any new space ships:
http://www.star-ranger.com/Minis.htm#ColdNavy
Along with TMP, of course:

My next question is, of course, just how patient does Ninja Magic expect us to
be?

responce everyone
I'll just go back to how much I like CN ships: the service from xtreme is
excellent as has been said here, they respond well to retail inquiries, and
has
also been noted, are very receptive to customer/user
input.
I don't really like the look of the Terrans, but maybe I was just turned off
by the first run (admittedly rough on the undersides, resolved with interest
in the 1.5 release).
I started with the Mauridians: I was working on a
reverse engineering project with IJSF-meets-KGuns. The
railgun spinal was perfect for the proto-kGun idea I
was playing with.
Next I grabbed Kharadorn and LOVE them. they paint up really sweet (IMO) and
are elegant to look at with a
nice-ish paintjob. I've been imagining them as the
ships of a Kra'Vak parent-race, all smooth and refined
WITH hella K-Guns ;-)

I have been running the Mauridians as Phalons and the Karadorm as Kravak. I
hvaent used the terrans yet, but I was planning on building them from
scratch, with the spinal mounts as K-guns. Though after playing UN
lateley, I may just go with Grasers.
