"DVD Release Date: July 31, 2007 "

So we're gonna be without for a while longer!

In the meantime, you can view your favorite episodes to build the excitement!

Unfortunately, it's /only/ on amazon.com, so presumably only the
NTSC/Region 1 version gets released then.

But not for those of us who have been without for just as long but who aren't
in North America....

Annoying, that.

Sorry man. :-( I have no idear if the other version format will be
released. I would *presume* so, given the strength of the following across
the pond and all, but... <shrug>

Greetings:

The funny thing is on Amazon.com.uk, they are listing the **score** to
the new direct-to-DVD film,
but not the DVD.

It'll come. Hey, we can whine too. I've never seen "Star Cops" available in
the US. Or "Moonbase 3". Or any number of other flicks or shows that I'd love
to get, but which never made it to "Region 1".

<RANT> BLOODY BBC! You put out Star Cops on DVD! Finally. Here's my mon...
What do you mean it's region 2 encoded? Can't you just push the region 1 radio
button in Windows and produce and American version? Please? Pretty please?

My second favorite show of ALL TIME and I can't buy it on DVD and watch it.
I've heard some people say that an out of my region code DVD player is a DMCA
violation so I've never bothered. And I don't know if a NTSC DVD player puts
out NTSC video on a PAL DVD...

Greetings:

"My second favorite show of ALL TIME and I can't buy it on DVD and watch

It's not my first or second favorite, but it is in that very crowded field of
stuff I would like to see again. It was on our local Public Broadcasting
Station exactly **once**. The first episode
was partly wiped by a power outage and they never re-ran it, drat them,
so I've only seen about half of that episode! My taped copies are so old I'm
afraid of playing them again!

Mike, have you tried the anime show "Planetes"? It's the closest I've found to
"Star Cops" in
spirit/feel, for me.

hacks out there that can turn your DVD from one region to all regions. Here's
some links www.videohelp.com www.vcdhelp.com www.dvdhacks.co.uk That way no
one has to be left out.

De-cloak....

The Chinese don't care much about copyright. The Chinese don't care much for
region encoding. Solution!
Buy cheap Chinese knock-off DVD player. Plays everything. (Well so far
region 1, 2 and 4)

Cloaking....

It's not so much the region codes I mind as the fact that they stuck Australia
in with South America. I mean sorry, but we don't have much
in common linguistically, economically or culturally. Our non-home-
grown TV programs and movies mostly come from the UK or the USA. I'm not sure
whether to blame stupidity or malice, but stupidity is generally more common.

As I understand it, there is no such thing as an NTSC or PAL DVD. The data is
encoded on the disk in a standard digital format, and it is the *player* that
outputs NTSC or PAL as required. There's a lot of
info on this here, for example: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Articles/

Trust me, I noticed. Not the dumbest thing I heard of, but does merit the
stupidity/laziness-of-thought appellation.

Thanks! I was wondering that myself, just after mentioning the NTSC/PAL
frustration. Still, there are plenty of old movies that seem to be available
only on tape, which IS NTSC or PAL only, and there's the whole
VHS/Beta divide as well... ;->=

By the way, anyone have an AAR? If I can't get a game up, I'd purely
appreciate a vicarious thrill...

Hell, I'd read a gropo rambling with gratitude!

(Not a lawyer, take with grain of salt, if problem persists please consult
your physician.)

Technically, hacking a DVD player that was region coded to bypass the region
coding might be a DMCA violation. However if the unit is manufactured such
that it can play DVD from all six regions, then you aren't modifying it to
bypass an access control provision, so the DMCA shouldn't come into it. It
would be just as legal, for example, as purchasing a region 2 DVD and a PAL
TV.

different versions and kicking the Chinese in the teeth. (The UK and Japan are
both in region 2, which is good for anime fans...)

Actually in Australia if you by the 55.00 AUdollar Chinese dvd player's they
play all regions, but if you get the, say 200.00 AU dollar Sony DVD player
they only play the region there marketed for, so the cheap nasty chinese

players are the best to go for, although there is a web site which gives the
program codes to make all dvd players play all regions, No i cant remember the
address.
