I wanted to order some markers, specifically something for FT missiles, heavy
missiles, plasma bolts, etc.

For heavy missiles or maybe plasma bolts, I was looking at the numbered naval
torpedo markers. Unfortunately, they come only in one colour, and
only numbered 1-10.

So I inquired about getting more colours and/or higher numbers. I'm
told it can be done easily, as a custom order. So if you want to get some of
these, you can get them.

I recommend ordering around the same time as me, because theoretically you
could get a better price if he can reuse some of the "customizing" work he has
to do for me.

they've done with other games.

They'd be happy to do this as a custom job, but the problem is that you would
need a lot of tokens and it would be quite an expensive
proposition - I don't know how many folks would be prepared to stump
up for a set. We have stocked a small amount of the Litko items in the past to
sell at UK shows, and I do use quite a few of them myself
- I agree they are very nice products, and they are great folks to
deal with!

Depeding on price I would go for a set.

Silent Death comes with several colours of numbered missile markers (actual
little plastic missiles). There are 36 numbered missiles of each colour. I've
always used these for missile counters in FT.

Probably works out expensive to buy the game just for these though. Not sure
if you can just buy the missiles by themselves.

Has anyone else talked to them about FT bases? Wouldn't they be useful in
other games?

Last time I spoke with them, they were willing to give it a go, but I never
had a good image to give them. Now that I'm currently stuck with Paint as my
image processor, doesn't look like I'll get one production ready any time
soon...

The current Next Millennium box has a 'full color sheets of markers for
missiles, torpedoes, asteroids', as I think they've gone to JUST metal for the
figs, except for the giant resin pieces. Still, I occasionally see the
old plastic set with markers for moderately cheap in exotic, out-of-the
shops. Worth the look, indeed. I think they did small packs with the missles
and torps, by the way. Keep your eyes out.

Flagship Games' Starship line has resin 2+ D, sort of bas relief tokens.
Aren't cheap, and their a bit, er, rough, but I didn't mind the ones I got.
Scroll down past the ship models, or don't and have a look. Never bought any
of those, myself.

PS. I'm really beginning to think an FT flight base with the Federation
Commander First Missions reticle may be the answer to my prayers, with
F,
FS, AS, etc, overlaying the lighter lines. ;->=

Couldn't see anything about selling markers separately on their web
site...

But 'twas a good thing you mentioned them, because visiting that site I saw
this:

"ICE is phasing out the blister packs of minis and moving to sale of
individual minis. All Blister packs are currently 60% normal price as we

try to sell the last of them off."

Now I just have to figure out whether I really need any more Silent Death
minis... <g>

Er... that's not what it says on ICE's site:

"To get started as a brand new player all you need is the $50 Silent Death:
The Next Millennium Deluxe Box Set. This box set includes everything you

need to start playing immediately:
    * 168-page Rulebook
* 9 polyhedra dice
    * 32-page starcraft display book
    * Two 24" x 36" fold-out hex maps
    * 16-page introductory scenario
* Plastic accessories: missiles, torpedoes, asteroids
    * 48 plastic ships + bases4 each of: Blizzard, Lance Electra,
Spirit Rider, Dart, Night Hawk, Talon, Hell Bender, Pit Viper, Teal Hawk,
Kosmos, Salamander, Thunder Bird "

Now look at the store:

I sometimes got the image of an entire company hanging to a ledge by
fingernails, and that was with a GOOD economy. As a retailer, I can only feel
the crush of empathy (read 'thrill of fear'...)

Still, I wouldn't guarantee either is the correct description; just, I
thought they were pretty much out of the injection-moulded plastic quite
awhile ago.

Ah, I see... that makes the current sale even more important, then <g> (Though
I am a bit curious as to why they don't just open the blisters and sell the
models individually... <shrug>)

That certainly fits with the company as I knew it, back when one of their
biggest playtest teams was a group I knew casually. (The people
who introduced me to SD, actually, and who ran the way-too-big-to-be-fun
2000 ship battle)

Friendly guys and fun, but never flush with cash, and never had any kind of
warchest or depth of resources.

Your <shrug> is wise, as there is much in business that seems 'pennywise,
pound-foolish' to thee and me...

'We will get fabulously wealthy off these "new financial products"' while
ignoring the effects of causing a crashed global economy comes to mind.

Sorry, I'm in a mood.

The norm, unless it's a group of strange, furtive,
paranoid-about-already-derivative-intellectual-property folks. In either
case, those putting out the goods tend not to have real business sense, ergo
enterprises that generally can be counted in days instead of years, if started
at all.

I know I've done the failure to launch...

We've all questioned a decision Jon's made at sometime; he'd be impossibly
lucky if he didn't himself. The point is, he's still here.

he should still have the templates somewhere.
