Hi all,
I've just taken some very hasty first pics of the new NSL ship
classes that came out of the master mould today - pics have been sent
to Paul (for the GZG site), to Dean for Star-Ranger and to John
Lerchey for his site; hopefully whoever gets them posted first can
let you all know where to look! ;-)
The pics were taken on a cutting mat on my workbench, and the grid on which
the ships are posed is in centimetres, to give you an idea of miniature sizes.
No codes, prices, names or other details yet - they should be
available for sale in a few days, more info at that point. In fact right now
I'm not even certain which classes a couple of them will be! Obviously the big
one is the new SDN, the two medium ones are PROBABLY going to be the CH and
CE, and the littl'uns are the Corvette and Scoutship. Of course, the FF, DD
and Strikeboat for the new fleet have been available for some time.
Hope you all like them! :-)

Anyone done any SSDs yet?;)
Jon,
Wunderbarr!! Those ships look great!! Hope you got a deal in mind for the
debut, I'm looking to drop some coins on this line.

Yum. I guess that means I can stop repainting my current fleet, and just buy
more models at Salute.
Looks like at least one spinal mount weapon there...

*whimper* AAAAAAaaaaaa! No fair! No fair! I can't paint. I want them! And I
can't paint them worth a damn! Me, the original, "I buy what I don't have to
paint" dude, loves the new minis. I want some.

Don't be scared of painting these. It's SO easy - spray them with
grey primer, pick out a few details in colours, put some of John L's nifty NSL
flag decals (available through us when you order the ships) on the flat panels
(plus some nice big ship numbers if you want), and they're done! If you really
want to go crazy you could give them a very dilute wash all over to bring out
the greeblies, but that's the
"advanced" paintjob..... ;-)
I can whip up some nice white numbers to go along with the flags, and custom
names if you like.:D

http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lI love my Neu
Swabians, so here's what I've come up with for the new SDN. Please feel free
to give feedback, smack me around for writing background for a ship that's not
even for sale yet, etc....
(Insert Class Name Here (Bismarck???)) Class Superdreadnought
With the introduction of the *Foch *class superdreadnought in 2181, the NSL
high command began a study into the feasibility of a new class of dreadnought
to suplement and eventually replace the *Von Tegethoff's. *The massive size of
the FSE warships being an insult to the High Command's Teutonic pride, an
unofficial stipulation was made that the new vessels must equal or surpass the
*Foch* in mass. Encounters with the Kra'Vak from 2183 onwards caused some
changes in the design, but by 2188 the first of the class was laid down at the
Neu Salzburg yards.
The ships follow standard NSL design doctrine in carrying no screens, but they
mount a significant amount of armor over an incredibly strong hull.
Additionally, these vessels are among the first NSL warships to feature the
*Schwerpunkt* internal compartmentalization system, which features enhanced
bulkheads and fire suppression systems to protect vital systems and keep the
ship in the fight longer. These improvements, coupled with strong active
defenses, a powerful beam armament, and a pair of fighter groups ensure that
the (Insert Class Name here) will be able to hold it's own against the best
any alien or human fleet can offer.

You're a Cinematic FT player, aren't you?
Far too many arcs, not enough actual weapons on this hull. Cut the
arcs down, shovel a B5 or two in there - one arc - for real
"Reach Out And Touch Someone" dreadnoughtishness, and it'll be all good.
For Vector FT, that is. It needs at least one Area Defense firecon, too, for
fleet ops in either Cine or Vector.
One of these days I'm going to see if the B5-packing T6 Light
Cruiser/Heavy Destroyer I want is actually feasible under FT's rules. I
want to see the look on my opponent's face when my light fleet units start to
zap him from 60" away...

The big SDN has a row of four - I dunno, fighter bays or missile/torp
tubes or something - on the back superstructure. Are there two of
those in the model or only one? It appears to have two in the left photo, but
the right photo seems to suggest it only has one, on it's left hand side. Were
the bits swapped round when the photos were taken, or is it just dodgy
perspective?

Not quite sure what you mean here - do you mean the big 4-up drive
units on the sides? If so, they are fully symmetrical - one block of
4 either side - and are the main engines. If so, I think I might be
able to see what you are seeing, the perspective and angle can make the
starboard unit appear (or not appear!) hidden in the portside
photo....
Nothing was changed on the minis between photos except the posing of
the group! ;-)

Fair enough. Thanks!

What kind of timeline do you think you have for the new mini's? If I can order
this week or next, and have them by the second week of April, I can put them
into my game on April 22.
No pressure or anything.
Deep breath Jon. ;-)

The next batch, with the remainder of the battleline (BC, BB, BDN etc) plus
CL, DDH etc, are going in the mould over the next few days and will be
available very shortly after; finally the carriers, fighters, support ships
and similar stuff will be done by early April!
By the end of this week/early next (allowing for the fact that we're
off at Triples this weekend!), we should have all the required classes to do
the Starter and Megafleet sets.

can hear me scream from England... ;-)
