I've been looking at various ideas for basing fighters and thought I'd share
these items I came across:

I like them as an alternative to the "dice bases" (by using a pointer, spinner
or adhesive "dot") while allowing 2 or 3 figures to be based.
My original idea was to do the "Axis & Allies" method; one fighter stand on
top of color-coded denominational chips to show the strength of a
group. (This works better with the "Battleshift" set of rules which I am also
looking at)

First thing that came to my mind was a thin chip on top, with a cutout
'window'. Same thing as a life counter for CCG's.

Battleshift?
Anyway, a friend's game shop has been unloading these large dice with hearts
or trees for pips. The pips have a certain ship's silhouette quality. I may
have a go using the dice as squadrons by themselves, IF I
can get the local lip-service fans playing again.

http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lI put one fighter
on a standard plstic ship stand. I ten attach two stiff wires pointing up. I
put endurance beads on one wire and life beads on the other. I use red beads
for life and vary the endurance beads by fighter type.
I have had many positive comments.

I use one fighter per base, and use an OHP pen to mark off boxes on the base.
The boxes were printed on paper and laminated so it could be dry wiped clean.
