Did Jon Tuffley ever get his email situation straightened out? I noticed
that Paul Owens' page (http://www.gtns.net/gzg/index.html) still links

I got an error message when I wrote to the jon@gzg.com address (didn't keep
the message, so can't tell you the exact error). Also, seems like Jon hasn't
posted to the list for about 4 weeks.

Meanwhile:

(1) Are the GZG ships manufactured in the U.K. made in lead alloy, or pewter?
(I believe the U.S. production is in pewter.) (2) Anyone who might want to
volunteer pictures to be used as illustrations
in our Miniatures Directory, please contact me off-list. These would be
pictures of individual miniatures, not fleets or groups (unless the group
matches the contents of a particular pack).

You are aware that the GeoHex site has the most of ships offered in the US as
painted models in individual piccies. Course, that doesn't include the
several 'not-' ships. You might also look at the Eureka site. My
paranoia
of java/javascript makes it difficult to navigate.

Are you interested in the non-ships, i.e., sci-fi micro armor, 'real' 15
&
25mm troops, etc?

If all this would be answered by a quick trip to TMP, I'm abashed. I've often
directed folks there, even mentioning you on this list, but never looked up
the entries for GZG, GeoHex, or Eureka. *blush*

I think we've met at some con, but I'm easily forgetable.

I contacted Jon about an order earlier this week to jon@gzg.com. Absolutely no
problem; I received a reply the next day...

I'm still here, and jon@gzg.com is still the valid (and only) address.
there have been some problems with mail coming from certain US-based
ISPs, because for some reason a few appear to have been "blacklisted" by my
ISP for spamming activities, and are being blocked. I'm still investigating
this with my ISP, though their response so far has been that the US ISPs in
question will not respond to them, so there's little they can do about it. If
you're having trouble getting mail through to me, please ask your own ISP
about it and maybe we can narrow it down from both sides and find out what is
really wrong! I've not been posting much because I've (a) been down with a
nasty flu bug, and (b) been a bit busy! I am reading most of the list traffic
still,
however....

Depends exactly how you define pewter. Our UK production is in C90, otherwise
known as "English Pewter", which has a VERY SMALL (about 5%) lead content.
Thus we describe is as Pewter, but NOT as "lead free"
pewter.....

Probably not you personally, but your ISP may have an open relay-- a
mail server which accepts e-mail from people not associated with the
ISP who are sending e-mail to other people not associated with the
ISP. This is often used to send massive amounts of spam-- I'm
surprised your ISP hasn't done anything about it. It can take a mail server
down pretty easily. There are a few organizations that keep track of such open
relays and place them in published Blacklists that other mail servers can
refuse mail from. Blacklists such as Jon's ISP are using are a pain in the ass
for everyone involved, but it's really the only decent solution against spam
so far. (Your ISP can typically get removed from the blacklist by fixing their
broken server and demonstrating to the blacklist publisher that it is fixed)

FWIW,

Bill's theminiaturespage.com used to list (editorial to follow) miniatures and
rules (separately of course) by the "Big Three" initial break down
(Historical, SF, and Fantasy) then (speaking here of miniatures) historical by
period (some overlap (18th Century and American
- as in AWI, etc. - for example); SF by 'function' (my term - space,
land, urban, and a few more); and fantasy (I forget - skirmish versus
mass combat? - plus a few more) and so on.

A marvelous listing. The only two weaknesses were 1)The proverbial "no
pictures" problem that is still endemic to web shopping and keeps the B&M
Shops getting my money and 2)you couldn't get a listing of miniatures
manufacturers by scale (i.e., all "10mm" or "all 10mm ACW" - although
you there is an awesome alphabetical listing of tons of 'manufacturers' of
game related stuff.)

He has a new format but the old format is not available. I have notified many
friends that I had suggested TMP prior to this as a great resource and told
them (for miniatures) "Never mind bothering looking for miniatures but it is
still a great site for manufacturers or rules searches." Bill is dependent on
the miniatures makers or volunteers to put the figures of the various lines
into an Excel spreadsheet for inclusion into the TMP listings.

Unfortunately the old is gone and the new is very incomplete currently. Bill
did not keep the old on line during the transition in a dual listing mode.
When the miniatures listing approaches the usefulness of the old listing I
will tell my computer literate friends that the miniatures listing is useful
again, just in case they don't check it themselves. I discovered this when I
went looking for miniatures listings for a particular scale and era. Thre was
nothing listed at all for ACW much less anything in my "scale of interest" for
ACW. Previously there had been a ton of figures makers available from 2mm to
(at least 54mm) including companies I wiould never had heard of by word of
mouth.

I saw that Friday at work (ran it on one system while watching the other
system run the geographic corrections...) and that is a great idea. Muchas
Gracias!
