http://lists.csua.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gzg-lI know the Beta
test ORC fleet has ECM Beam guns.

What is the thought having ECM beams being carried by fighters instead of
standard beams. To allow your raiders to capture enemy shipping by
knocking out their Engines, Firecon, & Screens.

Just a Lurker here on the Digest, But maybe I have a good idea or 2..

I would say that is possible, but have two thoughts on it that would make them
to require an extra cost.

The max damage that a group of EMP fighters could do is 3 points. A group of 6
could be reduced to 4 fighters and still average this 3 points of EMP causing
the drives, firecons and screens to take a level 3 threshold. Without having
the numbers readily before me this feels like far more effectiveness than a
group of beam fighters, even if it takes no losses before its attack.

Also the EMP fighters wold be real close to the attacked ship and the EMP
burst against it. The fighters would have had to been hardened and this would
cost at least a couple of NPV (or CPV) per fighter.

I like the idea, but think that they should cost at least +3 per
fighter.

I might prefer that fighters ONLY have EMPs rather than beams. I like the idea
that a fighter squadron can temporarily disable an enemy ship, but
can't permanently KO it without missiles/torps.

I've collected a few of the various costs of fighters here,
http://fullthrust.2-72.co.uk/systems.html#fighters

as well as missiles,
http://fullthrust.2-72.co.uk/systems.html#weapons-ord (under section
2.5)

EMP is a difficult weapon to cost on fighters, they could be very effective.
The description for EMP Heavy Missiles seems overly complicated, but the more
exotic weapons systems are being bolted on to the current rules. I agree they
should cost at least 6pt per fighter... though I have very little raional for
why.

Or, do something like they must power down all their own systems then trigger
the EMP. Thus they lose their primary move next turn, or get
DRMs for the next turn - effectively they sit still while they power up
again. (the power down protects their own systems from the effects).
This would make EMP fighters behave differently - perhaps have them
affect other fighters nearby as well, more of an area effect pulse than the
EMP Beams. Then it might be one use as well (this is how torpedo fighters act
in MT I believe, but for our rules I removd that condition)

With Combat Endurance Factors (CEFs), perhaps once an EMP fighter fires
it loses all its remaining CEF - that would be the easiest way to
represent the above ideas.

If you're going to cripple the EMP fighters that badly, why not just make them
missiles and be done with it?

Simon,

Great summaries on the fighters and drones--made a cheat sheet out of
those tables to use in my FT rules binder.

Also like the Weapons Compendium page;that will be a great resource for FT
players.Great job on this whole FT page of yours and thanks for putting it up
for folks to use!
