G'day, everyone,
After a week and a bit I finally assembled the GZG ECC XV: The Movie video.
It is a combination of stills and time-lapse sequences taken during this
year's ECC. Some of the camera/dolly action TL sequences were
unfortunately
cut short due to photo-bombings, but I had enough stills and sequences
from
the digicam to make everything work. :-)
The video is 6 minutes long (from over 30 minutes when I first dumped
everything into iMovie). It is up on both youtube and vimeo. Higher quality
version on vimeo, but i know that not everyone has access to that for one
reason or another.
Vimeo link:
http://vimeo.com/38046845 (the HD is nice)
Youtube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPrsafMEnjQ (the quality is, for me,
noticeably less than on vimeo)
This should give you an idea of the fun, the games, and the people of ECC.
:-) And hopefully maybe entice a few more folks to come out next year.
:-)
My thanks to everyone who contributed to the video!
Share and enjoy!

Excellent A blue box. A sandworm. A giant tea kettle. Attack ships on fire off
the shoulder of Orion...

Nifty stuff, and brings back memories of the ECC I was able to get to a few
years ago. Thanks!

Very cool!
And even without a single piece of dialog, it was *still* better acted than
*Act of Valor*. :-)
If I may offer a suggestion for next year, it would be helpful to include the
names of the participants, either as subtitles or in a "rogue's gallery"
sequence at the end, or something.
But, yeah, pretty awesome.

I thought about a listing of names of those who show up in the vid, but that
was a whole 'nother level of added work that I didn't have time for, and I
embarassingly have to say I *still* don't know everyone's name (or
full name) at the con. :-/
As for next year...I don't know if I'll do it again. I'd like to, but...it's a
huge amount of work and effort (in transporting, setting up,
executing, and in post), and people kept photo-bombing the time-lapse
sequences (well, those with the dolly, anyway). Editing all that out (which
ended up totally ruining three sequences) made it completely not fun or worth
the effort for me. As I noted in my AAR, once is funny, 20 or 30 not so much.

Very nicely done, Mark.
You managed to get some good pics of most of the games and the high speed
of the time-lapse segments (and your editing) undoubtedly added to the
aesthetic value of the overall result.
Some nice looks at games I didn't get to see even though I was there (being in
or running others).
Superb video.

That's unfortunate, as the result was pretty good!
Thanks for the effort this year, though!
Amen. Sent the link to my best friend who's not FT'd in years; mostly VSF via
G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.
For what it's worth, "Great video! Giving me con fever at the very least."
Hope that warms the cockles...
Great stuff, Indy. Really makes me wish I could attend one year. If only
all really good cons were not on at completely the wrong time of year for
me...
*sigh*
Still a geat video, with terrific music. Well done.
