Greetings, listers,
No doubt in the next few hours or days various After Con Reports will trickle
in. Or, at least, I hope they do. I will be writing up one as well as soon as
I get the chance. But in the mean time,
I just wanted to let you all know that GZG-ECC VI is now officially
over and plans are underway for ECC VII. This year we had less attendees than
last, but part of that was due to the economy, and
part due to a significant fraction of our usual con-attendees
being called away to active duty (Ted Arlauskas, Los, Magic, etc).
I'd like to thank everyone who was able to make it out. Roger B West even made
it from England, and that was a treat to meet him. He should be winging his
way back across the pond as I type.
I want to thank Jon and Jerry for everything they did to help organize and
make the con work so well.
And a BIG thanks to those who supplied prizes for the con (Jon T of GZG, Tony
of Brigade, Bill of B.R.Snasis, Carl Sheu for next year). Many a person walked
away very happy with some of the great items they got.
The weekend was fun, and wish you all could have been there. That
would have made it more fun. Maybe next year? ;-)
Mk
PS: the (in)famous Quote Board saw plenty of entries this weekend, and I'll be
working on transcribing those later this evening for everyone to read
No wonder the list has been quite this weekend! Still looking for folks that
want to do this on the "left" coast.

Hi folks,
Just some follow up to this: pictures, quote board, and AARs will be available
at:
http://www.warpfish.com/gzgecc/gzgecc6
If you took pictures from the Con and wouldn't mind them being linked
to from the GZG-ECC VI website, I'd like to link them up; ditto with
AARs; I'd like to copy AARs from the list and post them to the website. If you
have a problem with this, please let me know.
I'd like to thank Jon and Mark for their work, everybody who gave time,
money, or support to the con, and everybody who showed up -- without
you guys, this con doesn't exist. And, my thoughts and prayers to everybody
who would have been there, but, emergencies and other commitments kept them
away.
Thanks everybody! JGH

Start organizing it! ;-)

Just about how many does it take to make an event worthwhile? Never been much
for organization, but I am good in a supporting role. Any Northwest gamers got
any input one what sort of attendance we might drum up?

Unfortunately I'm in northeast Louisiana. Someone closer to the Gulf should
probably do it...
As for the suggestion of Kansas City, that might be feasible. I'm not sure how
far away it is, maybe a day's drive, but that's certainly closer than ECC.
I'm working on it! It'll be in the Central Texas area....)

If there had been an FMA Sheep game--which, I want it clearly
understood,
there was not--one of the more memorable images would have been of Allan
MacCajun with caber (TomB would have provided a separate mini for the caber,
if tthere had been an event) using the special event card "Pied Piper" to get
a paisley bagpipes and luring sheep with by playing "Dueling Banjos" on it.
We've got at least four, possibly more players/GMs in the Dallas area
who would take part.

It depends I guess on what your goals and hopes are. At GZG ECC-I
we had only 13 people show up. We thought that was a rousing
success (even if 8 of them were Canadian ;-) and went on for
ECC-II. I don't have the numbers (Jon Davis does; his forte in
this con thing) but we basically doubled or nearly doubled the attendees for
the second one, then leapt to the 30s with the third. Now we hover between the
30s and 40s, depending on world events, people's schedules, and the weather
(February is such
a balmy and weather-serene month, after all ;-). Last year we had
mid/upper-40s (maybe 50? I don't remember) so that was great. This
year we had IIRC 32. Still a viable number as far as we were
concerned - we had around 4-5 games/events going per session.

Yeah we have three here in the FT Hood area and five or so in Austin and a few
in San Antonio. If we did it here or Waco it would be about half way for most.
It's looking promising so far.I have a few venues in this area that I can get
reasonably...)

What time frame are you looking at? I would love to help with support. I
can do flyers and other promotional items to plaster the D/FW area.
Waco's an easy drive from just about anywhere in Texas, but I can't
remember if there's a good east-west highway running through there.
Time frame is up for grabs as I can slot just about any time needed.
I think Summer-Fall would be best, say any time between August to
October would work( for me at least).
Waco is a good spot but, for price and ease of set up Killeen works better and
I have a few places picked out. It is a short trip from both Austin and Waco
to this area. But this is still workable......)
There is a major east west highway here 190 that hooks into 35 in Temple and
Waco.

I guess it depends on what you consider "good" and where you're coming from.
It looks like, for me, it's going to be fairly straightforward: I20 to Tyler,
TX, then Texas highway 31 to Waco. US 84 connects I45 with Waco, so anyone
coming along I45 from Houston would take US 84. It looks about as central as
you could have it, given the number of gamers in Texas.
Don, is this looking like a possibility for this year? If so, I've got
painting to do...!!!
I know 190 well. I am very familiar with Killeen, I graduated from Copperas
Cove High School, Class of '87.
That's just as good as Waco to me, and it is very central. Maybe we should set
up a SCC (South Central Con, or somesuch) mailing list and see who we can get
involved. Your time frame sounds doable. Gives enough time to get the space
and events organized while giving enough lead time for people who would like
to attend.

Right Allan, like you didn't have painting to do anyway...) Your not alone by
the way! It could be pulled off this year I think, just have to push it far
enough back to accommodate everyone, and to advertise a bit...) (Oct 10th to
12th???)

Good Idea on mailing list. Was thinking of calling it Ground Zero Gulf Con but

D/FW is really easy for me to get to, too. I may finally be able to
play

Well, to be consistent, we have a GZG-ECC and a GZG-WCC, so this could
be
GZG-GCC for Gulf Coast Convention. Let's face it, Killeen/Waco is about
as close to the Gulf as Lancaster, PA is to the Atlantic.

It's all relative. ;-)
Where are you thinking then GZG-NCC should be held? Last I checked
(Michael Stanley Band era, so it's been a while ;-), the North Coast
was along Lake Erie. ;-)

We had over 50 last year, so we missed a lot of folks this year. Many from my

One secret to the success of the ECC convention has been the coordination and
teamwork between Jerry, Mark, and I. I also have to acknowledge Nick Caldwell
for his work with the shirts. But the three of us bounce off ideas and plans
and make plenty of decisions behind the scenes.
We begin the preparations after Labor Day....

Well, that might be closer to Saint Louis, depending on where on the Gulf
Coast.
Gracias,

Geez, 19th century corduroy roads were better than the average Louisiana
highway!

My fiancee likes the convention idea. We'd be close to her relatives and have
a place to crash for the night. I was thinking what I'd run (I'm crazy that
way, but I enjoy running games as much as playing them), and I'd be willing to
run two SG2 games and two FMAS games. I also have a couple of starship fleets
painted that I could bring to aid anyone who wants to run FT games.
