Hello: MAN! If I had the time and money I would be there SOOOOOOO fast! I
wonder, is anyone planning a GZG Midwest Convention? I'd be more than happy to
help plan something like that.

Hey, that's your back yard! ;-)

With the sponsorship of KR and GeoHex, it looks like the following GZG events
have been scheduled: 15 Full Thrust Events 15 Stargrunt Events 3 Dirtside
Events

The FT events includes a 16 player, single elimination tournement to determine
who is the Grand Admiral (or whatever fun title we can think of). There will
be more information sent to this list once we figure it out, or you can just
email me and I can give you some tentative basics.

We are gathering a rough estimate from the numbers of gamemasters and players
coming from various parts of the New England and
Canada areas. We could have 30-50 participants, maybe more.
I've inquired about other meeting room space and we'll have some available if
we need to expand to additional facilities.

We'll have a better idea once preregistration begins and I start filling

up slots on the prereg and event signup pages. The Attendee listing is a
listing of definite people in attendance.

Yes. Last year there were:

12 Full Thrust games events, 2 of these were NOT run by Geo-Hex
10 Stargrunt 2 game events (all run by Geo-Hex)
4 Dirtside II game events (all run by Geo-Hex)

This year we're doing 1 less Dirtside II events but 5 more FT and 5 more SG2
events. That's quite a big increase.

All the games I ran and/or participated in were full.

GenCon is a roleplaying game convention. But that's kind of like saying that
Microsoft makes operating systems and word processors.

GenCon is still mostly about roleplaying. AD&D is very popular, but so is Call
of Cthulhu, the White Wolf games, and most other big RPGs. Even the small ones
usually have at least a couple of events. There is a big CCG presence, but
there are also historical miniatures games, SF miniatures games, Warhammer,
board games, and War College lectures.
The program book has 6 pages of SF/Fantasy miniatures games alone. On
top of that, the game convention has a SF convention in the middle of it. Two
years ago, almost 30,000 people attended!

GenCon is probably the best convention to attend if you can only attend one a
year and have a wide range of options. I'd probably prefer something like
Historicon for miniatures, but I also play roleplaying games as does my wife.
We hardly see each other during the convention, but she's usually busier than
I am!

GenCon is Thursday, August 6 through Sunday, August 9. It costs about
$40 for the 4 days pre-reg, and about $50 (US) at the door. This
compares to Worldcon (the World Science Fiction Convention)
which--this year--is US$150 for 4 days!

I hope you can make it!

I was just that I was hoping that there could be something a little bit
smaller and more intimate. A convention with less people running around and no
Magic Munchkins underfoot.

I myself wanted to run a couple B5/FT games. I'm not sure If I
wanted to use my rules, or the new EFSB rules. That and I wanted to test some
new ground combat system that I am currently working on.

Con of the North, in St.Paul (five minutes away from Minneapolis, and the
capital of the state of Minnesota). Big enough that it can keep going, small
enough we are using less rooms in the hotel than
last year (last year was the first year it ran at a hotel -
previously it had run at a historic site three blocks away from it's current
location). This will be it's fourth year running.

They have Magic, the Addiction, but they also got other games - I'm
running Silent Death, Star Grunt, HarnMaster, and Historical CCG's: Dixie and
Eagles (from Coliumbia Games).

If you are inmterested, it is Feb 20-22. They have a web site, but I
don't have the site at home - laugh if you wanty to, but that site is
at work...

HEY! You be nice to those little snotlings! I bought a bunch of Magic cards
when they first came out. I haven't played the game in two years and decided
to sell off my collection. I paid MAYBE C$150 for ALL the cards I bought for
myself and my wife (and probably closer to C$100).
So far about 2/3 of the set have sold, and we've made C$900 (including
a big batch of commons I sold for C$40).

So, be nice to those snotlings. It's not everyday that you can make a 400%
profit (and rising) on a 4 year investment (wish my mutual funds were doing
this...).

I thought it had more to do with guilt at leaving them with sitters and day
care workers, with the parents overcompensating. That's what it looks like
with my inlaws, anyway.

Me? We have a dog. Miniature schnauzer, goes by the name of Arkham (nicknamed
the Terrier of Tindalos). When I feel like overcompensating for leaving him
home to defend the house (which he did admirably, last winter), I give him an
extra biscuit and add 20 minutes to our walks.

There is a con coming up in April in St.Louis at which there should be some FT
gaming, but it won't be GZG only.
