Subject: [GZG] [Brushfire] First Contact pt.1 [sec=UNCLASSIFIED]

Location: Planetary Colony G44-776
Date: 26th October 2198

Reports had been trickling in about the invaders all day. AAR from the fleet
action showed a large number of plasma weapons in use. Secondary analysis
confirmed the enemy forces: Phalons.
What they would want with a system no-where near their territory
is an open question best left for the high command. The only question now was:
can we hold?

Lt-Col James looked over the satellite reports of enemy
movements into his sector. The military satellites had been slowly destroyed
over the course of the day, but the civilian weather and navigation systems
had been left in place; probably as they were easy to hack into and provided
useful weather data. Recon flights from the base had supplemented data, at
least until the Phalons had called in their own air support.
It looked like a company of class-IV wheeled tanks with three
ZAD vehicles and a battalion of mechanised infantry with a few light support
elements. "Ralph, looks like they're going to hit Alfalfa City first with two
companies of mechanized. Co-ordinate an airstrike with their Lieutenant
and lets hope they don't panic. Send Col Atkinson to hold at grid D1 for a
counter-attack if we manage to soften them up enough. Stress its too
early for heavy losses, so he should pull back if resistance is too strong."
"Yes sir. What about the rest of the enemy?" "Looks like they're going to
either hit Gary Town or bypass strait into the valley. Relocate the Bass Point
assault units at the valley bottleneck and reinforce them with the artillery
and whatever mines you can scrape up. After the strike on Alfalfa, reload with
missiles and take out the ZAD of the main force and a few of the heavies. If
we can't bog them down, we may as well surrender right now."
