Hey all,
For years I have participated on this list and it strikes me that there really
doesn't seem to be much of anything for GZG events on the West Coast. Either
they are rare, or I have completely missed them. I know I'm not on the
"wargaming coast" but am I missing something?

haven't seem anything about one either. Are there that few of us out this way?
If not there are at least several events we can piggyback on isntead of a
dedicated con.

it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth.

ny you mention that, we have been kicking the idea around for a while.
Both GZGs and Traveller have Conventions in the same hotel in Lancaster, PA,
but at different times of the year. We are considering doing the same but
combine both into one event out here in/around Silicon Valley. Possibly
to coincide with TravellerCon in October.

think it was 8 or 9 years ago there was a GZG WCC. Ted Arlauskas went through
the pains of organizing it. I don't remember the exact details, but a dozen or
two people showed up maybe? And the venues available to
him/them
were prohibitively expensive. So much I think there was talk of a WCC II, but
it never happened.
And if it did, my memory on it is faulty and fuzzy. I know there was nothing
after that.
Combining GZG and Traveller into a single convention may help mitigate the
costs, and therefore might not be a bad idear.

Well, I keep trying to make the run to Denver, approx 580 mi., but just can't
seem to make it. Sorry bout that...
The good news is there's yet another reoccurrence of interest in FT, and I may
be having a small but regular group going someday (next year in Jerusalem...)
Not being a groppo myself, and Bill Brush being the only person, locally, I
knew of, not much hope for SG or DS here.

I dunno, but a dozen or two impresses the heck out of me for a first stab at a
limited con, though I understand the pricey startup being a killer; I'm not
finding the attendance numbers for the various ECC's to compare.
We have tourney's at the store, usually GW or FoW, that rarely come near that
number.

Pretty much seems to be the fate of miniatures-based conventions on the
West Coast. This really is the "role-playing" coast. There is a good
local historical gaming convention which has been warming up to a bit of
fantasy and sci-fi over the years, maybe a sort of local meet and greet
"sub-con" at Enfilade might work. There is also Game Storm in the
Vancouver/Portland area every year.
Maybe if we can't garner enough support for a purpose-built Con, we can
arrange something at either of these. Too late in the year for this year, but
something to think about.

ute might be reachable for me sometime. It's about as long a drive to
either Vancouver from where I am. But yeah, I agree that piggy-backing
on local events might be the best way to grow the local GZG community.

was one of the folks (another was my son, 5 at the time, now in High school).
IIRC there were 4 of us that actually ran games, and 5 or 6 additional
players. Some of the restriction was trying to get space at a hotel. Another
was just getting folks to commit.
I'd try to get an event at either GenghisCon or TactiCon

There's a bunch of stuff about it in the GZG-L archives (including posts
