This is primarily addressed to the GZG list (gzg-l@csua.berkeley.edu)
but it has application to the other lists.
I see that GZG has the following (human) figures in all scales above:
NAC NI NSL FSE ESU UNSC Japan Corporate mercs IF
the following in 15 and 25 mm lines:
Colonial FCT Scan. Fed. Hammer's Slammers
And, to complete the list, in 25 mm only:
IC
Dutch Generic Mercs OUDF PAU RH
On the GZG list I wanted to ask Jon Tuffley if there are any plans to get the
IC in 15 or 6 mm scale?
How much interest is there in the expansion of the 15 and/or 6 mm scales
by GZG? Yes, I know Jon is busy casting, packaging and marketing the
diverse FT/SG 2/DS 2 lines plus working on FT 3/DS
3/FMA/BDS/yada-yada-yada but an unscientific poll about what would be
nice 'next' in SG 2 terms couldn't hurt, right? What's the top 3 to 4 for each
of you? And how serious are you about committing to buying some?
MY votes (in priority order) would be:
1) 15 mm IC (I would commit to 3 packs minimum, 6 maximum in advance)
2) 6 mm IC (I would commit to 4 packs min. if the 15 mm IC were not
produced) 3) 15 mm RH ( no commitments if the IC are produced, 3 packs minimum
if not)
4) 6 mm generics/mercs (no commitments at this moment)
Now, aliens, that is another thread... <grin> and a lower priority.
Gracias,

I would be interested in the 6mm figures as that is the only scale that I
collect. Not enough room/painting skills for the larger scales.

I'd love to see some additions fo the 6mm line, but my tastes are rather in
the minority, since I use them to play SG2. So, I'm more interested in
extensions to existing troops (scouts, medics, vehicle crew and other
specialists) than I am in adding additional forces.
However, I really, really, REALLY want to see both the figures and vehicles
from the Hammer's Slammers line in 6mm!

Well in my imaginary "Jon is cloned" world - more 6 and 15 mm lines from
the current excellent 25 mm lines plus more extensive specialists plus weapons
sprue too.
As an aside, Brigade models is planning some 'generic' 6 mm infantry to
include (IIRC) specialists. I plan to try them out for one of my current
'nations/groups' for DS 2.
Hopefully they will be more compatible the Alternative Amy figures I use for
one group...

I am aware of them, particulalry since I'm the one who's going to be
sculpting them. Just as soon as I recover from New Baby Syndrome. :-)

I plan on making them close in scale to the current set of GZG 6mm figures,
though they might end up a bit thinner. I haven't seen the AA figures, so I
can't comment on how well they'll match.

Some say you never recover from this. I'm still recovering from my first child
and she's 4 now.

I hear that. I got two 4 year olds and another on the way.
> > Some say you never recover from this. I'm still recovering from my
Hmm, I've got 3 girls. The oldest turns 5 in 4 weeks. The middle is
3 1/2.
The youngest will be 2 in 3 weeks. On top of that, last fall the youngest just
out of the blue starts being sick. A month later, the beginning of October,
she gets a liver transplant. All I gotta say is that they better
be good gamers when they get older! :-)
> > I am aware of them, particulalry since I'm the one
I've just about recovered from my first child (3 1/2 years old) so I
expect this recovery to be quicker. I've got practice after all...
Tom
Oh you're in for a shock. Didn't anyone tell you that going from 1 kid to 2
kids is an exponential increase in work? I hear that from 2 to 3 it's not as
bad, but I'm not sure I believe it.

Believe me, you never quite recover. My kids are now 21, 23, 25 and 26, and
somewhere along the way I seemed to collect several others that spent a lot of
their life growing up at my place. And now to add to the previous mix I get
grandkids also. So I guess you could say you never get to recover, but it is
still well worth it.

I don't doubt that...but I do say that certain things get easier while other
things get more difficult as time goes on.
Just this morning I was putting some minis together and the older of my
daughters (by about 5 minutes) was handling the sprue snippers quite well
(with some direction).
So, getting back to the subject of 6mm infantry, I checked Alternative Armies
web pages to check out their line. It looks like a nice source for some basic
infantry, but their images a) are fuzzy and b) only show HQ units.
For anyone who has any of these minis,
- do they come on bases of 4 figures (as is implied in the description)?
- how do they compare size-wise with either gzg or H&R infantry?
- any chance of a description of the uniforms and weapons for
- crusaders
- khan
- levys
?
Thanks,
Bah! From 2-3 for my wife and I was the threshhold at which things got
very interesting.
Once we were out-numbered ALL the dynamics changed!

Take you time, Tom. Tomorrow would be okay. <VBG> Seriously, take all the time
you need. I can use GZG stuff then I'll have two units (one in Uniform A and
one in Uniform B.) I should note that I am thinking I'll use the 15 mm AA as
PA (Armor D 10) in SG 2 for the LLAR and we'll see how the 6 mm AA figures
compare to GZG (and future Brigade) stuff. before I can place them in the
'proper' role.

male living on is own - no children - that I know of, an almost 16

I'm not sure what is meant by "specialists," but I feel GZG's biggest
gap is in crew-served weapons. Big, heavy ground mount APSWs (think .50
cal and grenade launchers), andd actual ATGMs (NOT shoulder launched,
more like a TOW, or at least bulky, ground-mounted like a Javelin or a
Dragon). Heck, make the firer bare-headed, and have a low-tech
(fatigues), mid-tech (body armor) and high-tech (hardsuit), and you
could fit them in every GZG army by putting a real figure on the stand.

I have been ordering overseas (as from US to Europe) for a number of years. I
have established a number of rules on using credit cards and so far so good.
The rules are:
1) Use paypal if at all possible - this is
double blind credit card -> paypal
paypal -> seller and the most you can loose
is the sales price (I have lost and on Ebay purchase no less). A nice feature
is payments can be made in several currencies (I pay in British pounds and am
billed in US dollars) 2) If you send credit card buy only from a company you
know and has existed for
2+ years. Keep up on industry news and
if there is a rumor of a problem DON"T BUY from that company. 3) When sending
credit card over Internet it must be handled in one of two ways:
- Secure website (htmls)
- Split the credit card number over
two Emails so that the loss of one Email will not be a disaster. If in doubt
use snail mail to send order. 4) Find credit card company that is fast to flag
suspicious purchase. Every credit card purchase I make over a certain limit or
overseas is flagged. Seller contacts me, I contact credit card issuer and
identify myself and authorize purchase and seller reissue goes through (I did
this with GZG and warned them it would be flagged).
I suspect that over the next few years that the ability to make secure
purchases will improve.
> I'm not sure what is meant by "specialists," but I
The current plans include 4-5 regular troops with rifles, one officer
(pistol), one or two crewmen, possibly a sniper and a GMS/L team.
It's possible I can re-use the GMS team members for other crew served
weapons, and I'm not opposed to a few more varieties of heavy weapons.
We'll see... I need to start sculpting the prototypes first at any rate.

Consider setting up a Visa-branded card with a short credit limit--eg
one tied to a savings account with, say, $100 or $200 in it.
