1) First realize that DS2 has a different feel that FT--substantially
more complex (my opinion but other people on the list have also said it),
different mechanisms.
2) Decide which you'd like to lure him into--if it was me, it'd be FT.
3) "Hey, I need to play out a scenario for a campaign game, and I don't want
to take both sides, could you help me out for an hour or so?" 4) Bring your
best looking mini's or ask him to bring his own (unlike what I'd do, but There
Will Be Paint, sooner or later. Probably Later. The fact that I have 4 year
old unpainted lead has nothing to do with this....). 5) Make sure his side
wins (use Indy's dice).

Huh; never thought of that tactic...

Conversely if you are into DS or SG and he's into Epic40k or WH40k, then you
can also show him the conversions for those games taht open up manymore
possibilities...

I've used this sneaky but effective tactic a few times on my wife.

Bloody good idea..

More to the point, I'd say:

Remember GZG games are non-background-specific, though Jon is delighted
when we buy his figs...

6) Use a GZG system in concert with a non-GZG game. Fight escorted
transport ship approaches to battle sites, especially E40K, though an
attempted interception of a Thunderhawk is not unthinkable.

7) Recall that the GW sculpting is, er, um, fanciful, as is the painting. Be
certain your ships aren't the sensible GZG items, but find old Spacefleet, or
convert fantasy ships and 40K vehicles, or scratchbuild, and paint as colorful
WHILE darkly gothic as you can.

G;'day guys,

> i've been pondering on gw -> gzg migration paths recently....

Derek and I have managed to convert/subvert at least 8 GW players over
the last 6 months. First up we got them interested in FT or ESFB and then
followed with SG, DS and some other fantasy and historical games we play (e.g.
Piquet, DBM, Hordes of Things etc.). All we really did was rock up to their
gaming club and start to play (obviously having enormous fun playing what was
a very quick game to them). However, if I had to put my finger on what
converted this lot it would be two things (a) our minatures were actually
painted and (more importantly) (b) our entire fleets cost less than one unit
(sad to say the $ was the bottom line there). I'd also have to agree with the
last point here, make sure they have a good showing (i.e. use Indy's (or my)
dice or dumb down your tactics or miss
opportunities etc.) -
there's nothing like a win to sweeten them up (its not necessary for everyone,
but for a few its crucial). Does that give you any ideas/hope?

Cheers

Beth

winning point. as students, money is perenially tight. admittedly, gzg has the
edge in local stores and player base (although if rob paul ever
answers my hails this may improve - rob! your game needs you!), and BFG
is rumoured to be faster than FT, so some of the edge goes away there, but i'm
sure the sheer quality (i might throw in LiteVec Classic easy vector movement
just to blind him with science...) of ft will win in the end. and if not, it's
pulse torpedo time. scorched undergraduate policy.

oh, i have no trouble losing at ft! the best thing would be a three-way
battle, with me and another experienced player and the target,
all-vs-all.
chances are the two vets would go for each other, leaving the gwite to attack
with some degree of impunity. or he could take a smaller force and
swap sides a lot - the full thrust version of the lib dems.

That's enough "Raptor Red" pastiche. Sorry to have been so slow Tom, I'm just
a week back from Scotland (into the teeth of
video-dying-with-3-Bab5s-to-go horror!). My NSL squadron is sitting
atop the telly in a based but undercoaty sort of way, so I'd say they were
ready for a battle (1478pts, with 3 MM Sulacos also available as "Bayerns"

Your ideas on smiting the ungodly- Ahem, converting the un-GZGly (gwite
makes an excellent monosyllable) sounds like a plan.

BTW, should pulse-torps fail to scorch any recalcitrant gwite, I
have a rubber mallet that may do the trick.
