I have liked very much the novels of Harold Coyle (e.g.'The Ten
Thousand'). Not Sci-Fi, but at least alternate history (late 20th
century). Good combat, interesting characters, and he even has respect for the
'Bad Guys'.

Bang on, Karl! Leaders that DO make mistakes, but lucky enough to survive
them. There MUST be scenario fodder for groppos!
As an aside, Mr.Coyle is a heck of nice guy, loves to chat at book signings,
and has been known to run a game or two at cons. Team Yankee was his first
'hit', right? Don't hold the box game against him, though I thought it was ok.
Just found a list that had an M1A1 gunner that complained the tanks didn't
breakdown often enough in Team Yankee, though. ;->=
