I just saw this on The Miniatures Page! Geo-Hex, which used to have the
US license for GZG miniatures, is closing its doors.
http://theminiaturespage.com/news
Will Thompson of Monday Knight Productions has said that MKP is now on its
own, and that Geo-Hex will close as of February 14. "Monday Knight
Productions
has purchased the rights to making Mats from Geo-Hex. We also are
arranging to
go back into production on some of the old Geo-Hex terrain lines. This
will take some time but everything moving with the new productions."
MKP makes a number of historical miniatures sold through Geo-Hex.
Geo-Hex
makes the famous Geo-Hex terrain, as well as "Battleground" terrain.
There is
no mention of the closing on Geo-Hex's own site.
I'm sad to see this, as KR of Geo-Hex was great to deal with, both for
purchasing and for supporting GZG events at various conventions (for me, it
was his support at GenCon).

Did KR decide to close things or is it something worse? (KR sick or
something?)
I haven't spoken to KR in over a year, but I understand that this was a second
(or third?) career. I think that more business was being channeled into MKP
and less into terrain (other than to support Mage Knight and GW).

That's what I was figuring, but I think he knows he's got our best wishes.
Always more than square with me, even if he did prefer talking to Megan at
GenCon than myself... ;->=
What's to complain? So did Jan!

OK, apart from the official Mage Knight game mats, which are a nice bit of
kit, I wonder how well the MK lines at GeoHex have sold? Wizkids try to make
all the games being played consistent by using terrain templates which are the
only terrain allowed in officially sanctioned games. To my mind,
and I'm a volunteer for Wizkids, this isn't the right idea, but then I'm
not in charge.

Bad news this.
The Mage Knight terrain is very good and usable in a variety of settings. I've
quite a few of the Upland Terrain pieces.
I wonder if they might have sold better had they been releases as general
terrain and not under the Mage Knight banner?
Also picked up a couple of the new Battleground pieces. I highly recommend the
Dragon's Lair. Nothing in the piece itself implies a fantasy setting.
It's a great narrow canyon/arroyo piece.

Almost exactly my point. The branding may have caused problems. They might not
have sold well to the Mage Knight players, for the reasons I said, and the
other gamers may have looked down their noses at anything labeled Mage Knight.
Very sad bit of news this..
