Oh it is....
Although this was my first GEN-CON I have made plans for next
year. Here my game plan.
1. Go two days: Saturday and Sunday (You can't do and see it all in just two
days)
2. Pre-register (Its cheaper)
3. Sneak in my own food and drink (three bucks for a soda and two for a
soggy bratwurst--NO WAY!!!)
4. BRING MORE MONEY!!!!
Later,
To all of you who went this year, as crowded and as full as the games get
... is it worth it to go for just one or two days (namely Sat-Sun
afternoon?)? I have NEVER been there, and it sounds like a great time!

Ok, so the question is... how does one get on a mailing list(?) to
pre-register for Gencon?

Depends on your distance to the con. It's 12 hours away for me. Last year I
thought I got a bit more out of it staying for all 4 days; this year I arrived
Wednesday night, and stayed for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Personally,
I'd probably still go for two days, but I'd prefer Friday and Saturday, as
Sunday is usually a wind down day. If you can, check this year's programme and
see if there would be enough to keep you busy both days. It will be a good
indicator if it's worth going for only two days.

If you only desire to go for 1 or 2 days try Friday and Saturday. Saturday
is also known as Sci-Fi Saturday with extra events related to sci-fi.
Sunday gaming ends at 4pm, with less activities then the previous days. I
highly recommend going all four days if you can make it. There's just so much
to see and do!:)

I just sent them an e-mail (thanks guys!). My wife is originally from
Delafield, WI... not 45 minutes from there, so I have free Room and Board
...plus while I'm out gamiung she can spen time with the clan. I and my
brother in law have always talked about going.

I think I'll referee events on Saturday next year, since it was very difficult
to get into other events unless you had preregistered for them. There are just
too many people at Gencon on Saturday. It is a great time, and the dealer room
is the best!

Hello:
One suggestion I got from GEN-CON participants was to print up
business cards with the URL to THE PAGE. Frankly I think this one of the best
ideas I gotten so far. Microsoft Publisher makes great cards that I will have
done well before the next con or demo (or anytime someone wants the adress).
The idea about a Star Trek/Star Wars FT game sounds good. I
don't think that there would be too much modification to the rules to play
(not like a B5-based game) and keep everyone's interest. The only
problem I see is the miniature question. There are quite a few Trek inspired
minis on the market (Gamescience, SFB, MicroMachines, etc.) but not that many
Star Wars minis (the MicroMachines look okay, but they are a little out of
scale). Scratch building maybe nesscessary.

Yes, this is true. I noticed that at Gencon every game set in the Star Wars
universe used Galoob micromachines. With the one exception of the Arena game
with the six-foot Star Destroyer and a mess of other scratch-built
ships. But they also used Galoob micromachines for the fighters. The Micro
Machine fighter minis did look great in the Star Wars in Silent Death game,
dogfighting among the asteroids.
And the assualt zeppelin Hendenborg wouldn't have gone down in flames in the
Origins DS2 game if that one guy hadn't been picking boom chits on every draw!

I didn't go this year, but I've been up to GenCon three times now. Driving up
from Texas, we took a week off and attended all 4 days of the con. However, by
Sunday we're always worn out, and there usually isn't as much going on that
last day. Only one of the three trips did I have any fun on Sunday (tying for
the win of the Space Hulk tournament).
My recommendation would be to go for Friday and Saturday, plan on traveling
home Sunday afternoon (maybe attend one event in the Sunday 8 to 12 block).
If you can squeeze extra time, go Wednesday night so you can attend the
Thursday events. Many of the multiple day tournaments start on Friday, also
many of the games where you have a "training" version, then a tournament have
the first round on Thursday.
Also, you can pre-reg on Wednesday (if you don't ahead of time) and
still get just about everything you want.
I would not go at all if you could only attend one day (unless you live in the
area).
That's my 2 cents! : ) And I do plan on going next year. The only
reason I didn't go this year was that I had a chance to go to the MacWorld
Expo.;)

I am finally returning to college after a 6 year lapse and my schedule is
M-F all year, so I would have to go for Sat/Sun. My wife is originally
from nearby there so she can spend time with her family, I get a free place to
sleep, and a fun weekend at the con. TSR is going to post
pre-reg sheets on tehir web page this week sometime.

Do you have the COMPLETE list of these? I love them! Some that come to mind
are:

*** If the attack is going well, it's an ambush
