Subject: [FYI] New minis from DP9
http://www.dp9.com/Products/d20mechaminis.htm I know all you love "really neat stuff", and transforming M1A1 tanks is just to cool. 3 GearKrieg Modern figs and 3 from their d20 Mecha Compendium. The Cold War was harsh on the Russian economy, and the Soviet effort to match American space deployments (including the missile defense network and the missile-equipped lunar bases) brought on its gradual collapse. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, several of its client states were left to their own devices. Iraq's dictator, Saddam Hussein, decided to invade neighboring Kuwait to grab its riches. Coalition forces, through Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, threw his forces out in a short but spectacular conflict in late 1991, facing Iraq's obsolete Soviet-made RT-72 combat walkers. The war was a showcase for some of the newest American military technology. The M1A1 mechatank was a direct descendant of the U.S.' WWII walker design efforts. It was a turbine-powered beast able to move either as a tank or a bipedal walker, and shone in both the open desert and the crowded city streets of southern Iraq. It was assisted by the M3 infantry fighting vehicles, another variable walker design. The M3 was equipped with a 25mm cannon and a pair of guided missiles, and could transport up to six infantrymen into battle. Stubby manipulator arms extending from the lower chassis enabled it to perform minor engineering tasks as well. The most common vehicle of the war, however, was the High Mobility Multipurpose Walker Vehicles (HMMWV, pronounced HUMVEE), a variable design that could deploy as either a light walker inspired by WWII Japanese designs, or an all-terrain vehicle. Beyond its immediate usefulness as a light transport, the vehicle was equipped with a turret ring that could mount a variety of weapon systems (such as a 25mm cannon, an anti-tank missile launcher or a anti-aircraft missile launcher).
