Consider myself repremanded and on report...just please don't fling me out of
the airlock, I have an allergy to space sharks...

Seriously though, you guys are right, introducing new game mechanics is a
tricky thing (especially for a wet behind the ears snot like me), I've seen
how badly it can unbalance things when taken too far. And is the Fussion
Cannon interesting enough to warrant a new mechanic?...probably not in all
fairness...

Thanks for taking the time to look at it though, much appreciated!

Cheers,

REPRIMANDED?????

Nope. You made a proposal, we gave honest criticism "without fear or favour".
We treated you as an equal, that's all. And will continue to do so. I
sincerely hope that you'll do the same thing for me some time, shooting my
beautiful but flawed ideas down in flames using an ugly little fact.

For a first attempt, it wasn't bad. 90% of the time new
proposals are for things that are uber-weapons of miniscule cost.

Geeze, you just get here, and already you're suggesting new systems, something
I've not done the entire YEARS I've been here.

If anyone is going out an airlock, it's not going to be you!

One point, though: don't think that the replies were tongue lashings. The
analysis was straightforward and without umbrage, but took you seriously,
worked through your points, and I thought rather well.

Consider it a compliment that they spent that much time and effort, and start
thinking about either a revised item ( you CAN state it's 'in developement' as
to why it's not in general use, though it's normal to have hidden defects in
such systems...) or get on to thinking about your next suggestion.

Welcome aboard, and congrats on a fine start!

Exactly.

On the other hand, he should consider himself lucky he didn't get the first
analysis from Oerjan. While dispassionate and balanced, he CAN sound like
he's cutting you to ribbons. ;->=

I figure it's his professional voice, as his English is better than mine, but
it can be intimidating.

Matt, always pay attention, as he crunches numbers like no one else, but never
be abashed.

PS While I'm a simple drudge in small computer shop, I tend to get high marks
for expression. On the internet, capitalization, punctuation, and the
occasional use of spell-checking go a LONG way...

Yes, keep up the ideas Matt, sooner or later one will jell (or gel) just right
and you will have the honor having inspired a new wrinkle in a great system.
And along the way you might just become a footnote in "The History" like
Beth's "ones" or (IIRC) something like the "Kochte
dice/effect" and gain virtual immortality (or at least old age...)
<grin>

Nice idea for a newbie (Does green go well with my eyes? NO?) <LOL> Seriously,
excellent start.

If it is any consolation, I sound exactly the same when Jon Tuffley asks

for opinions or analyses of proposed rules too... he doesn't get intimidated
by it; neither should you!

> Matt, always pay attention, as he crunches numbers like no one else,

I've been crunching numbers for Full Thrust *longer* than most on this
list, but Roger, Alan and others are quite good at it too nowadays :-)

(In this case agree with Roger, BTW - I'd put the Fusion Cannon at Mass
8,
cost 3xMass, ie. equivalent to two single-arc P-torps.)

Oh, and welcome on board to Matt, BTW <g>

What U don't have space shark repellant on you at all time...

Welcome aboard.
