In getting to know the SV, I've become convinced that Pods are underpowered to
the point of near uselessness as offensive weapons. One solution I'd like to
experiment with is upping the energy cost of an offensive pod (lance, leach)
to say 5 or 6 power points to get
Pulse-torp range and to-hit rolls. I'm not sure how it balances
math-wise and probably only play-testing would be telling.

Have other SV players felt pods to be weak?

Well they're a pain to hit with, I'll give them that. I use them primarily for
defence against fighters and missiles. The good thing about pod launchers is
that you can create new pod types to fire. This is their real versitility. I'm
working on stats for a plasma template version like the phalons.

G'day Noam,

> In getting to know the SV, I've

I haven't sat down and given it serious consideration, but on the flip side
I've found that I don't use pods that much and when I do its invariably a
lance pod. Leech pods may be hard to shake in principle, but nearly every time
I've used them (even against damaged small ships) Derek's been able to shake
them off with out too much hassle. However, I don't know if this tendency to
keep pod usage low is because of the way I play, the number of 1s I roll to
hit anyway or because the pods are a little off.

Cheers

G'day again,

Just had another thought... there have been a few cases where I've used
leeches successfully (and in a better fashion than lances could do), but this
required coordinated shots by many pod using ships onto the same target (in
overwhelming sense). So maybe my tendencies come from using mostly standard
ships that have few pod launchers, the guys who build their own (and so can
have more pod launchers) might be able to give you a different cut on the
issue.

It's the to-hit problem. Compared to the current human ep-torps, it's
just not worth using lance pods with the loss of mass.
