Hiya Tony!
I'm 'slotting' the Centauri ships according to their relative size, as
compared with the GZG line. One thing I noticed about the AOG line is that
they use "Battleship" as their largest designation, so I'm bumping up the
class a couple of levels from what they give as a ship class.:)
Here's what I have (or have planned for acquisition <g>) so far. I've mapped
the groups so that they'll work with both FTMT and FTFB class categories.
Fighters:
[YY] Standard Fighters - GZG 'Kantauris' Fighters
[YH] Heavy Fighters - GZG 'Kantauris' Heavy Fighters
Escorts:
[GL] Courier Boat - ??
[GS] Scoutship - AOG Sentri Medium Fighters
[FL] Corvette - AOG Rutarian Strike Fighters
[FF] Frigate - GW Eldar Night Wing Interceptors
[DD] Destroyer - GW Eldar Phoenix Bombers (w/o wing guns)
[DH] Heavy ('Super') Destroyer - GW Eldar Phoenix Bombers (w/wing
guns) Cruisers:
[CL] Light Cruiser - ??
[CE] Escort Cruiser - ??
[CA] Strike Cruiser - ??
[CH] Heavy Cruiser - AOG Vorchan Warship
Capital Ships:
[BC] Battlecruiser - AOG Alterian Destroyer
[BB] Battleship - AOG Dargan Strike Cruiser
[DN] Battledreadnought - AOG Primus Battlecruiser
[SD] Superdreadnought - AOG Octurion Battleship
Carriers:
[CVS] Scout Carrier - ??
[CVE] Escort Carrier - ??
[CVL] Light Carrier - ??
[CV] Fleet Carrier - AOG Balvarin Carrier (Jan99 release)
[CVA] Assault Carrier - ??
The Dargan, with a length of 3.0" and a 'wingspan' of 2.75", is just right
(size wise) for the main fleet Battleship. The Alterian checks in at
2.75"
long and a 1.875" wingspan, while the Vorchan is 1.875" long but has a width
of 2.25" across the horizontal crescent, so it just 'seems right' for
the CH. I plan on fielding a bunch of Vorchans - they are such a
*pretty* ship.
I'm hoping that the AOG Covran (slated for Jan99 release along with the
Balvarin) will work out for either the CA or the CC/CE class. I'm just
guestimating that the Balvarin will work as a standard CV. If it is size
equivalent with the Dargan, it should.:)
As you can see from this mapping, I've still got Cruisers and Carriers to find
& adapt to complete my basic TOE. I'm starting to lean towards Kilrathi naming
conventions, as Orion names tend to be excessively polysyllabic <g>.
Out of the mouth of -MWS- came:
***
[GS] Scoutship - AOG Sentri Medium Fighters
[FL] Corvette - AOG Rutarian Strike Fighters
[FF] Frigate - GW Eldar Night Wing Interceptors
[DD] Destroyer - GW Eldar Phoenix Bombers (w/o wing guns)
[DH] Heavy ('Super') Destroyer - GW Eldar Phoenix Bombers (w/wing
guns)

You're giving those lovely Eldar epic flyers to the Centauri?!?!? The
skimmers, yes, but, but... *sputter*
Seriously, wherever used, good. Only part of the new Epic line that really
caught my fancy. I still think the AOG fighters are large for where you're
placing them, even taking into allowance for the REALLY BIG AOG ships.
However, I suppose even the smallest class of Centauri ship must maintain the
bare necessities of civilization (pronounced with a slushy zed, bordering on
lisp), including wet bar, Jacuzzi, quarters for camp followers...
Are you going with FT, FB rule structure, modified EFSB, or...? for your
fleets? I'm curious what you are using for the stats that are missing so far.
One thing I think people, who can get past squishy plastic space ships, might
look at is the MicroMachine TNG Romulan ships, particularly the scout vessel.
In the pasty green, it's not much to look at, but I have a few of the bronzed,
and the 'antiqued' panels on swept wings certainly look very Centauri to me.
As an aside, the front has that 'flat iron' look so beloved of the Citadel
Spacefleet Tyrant and Emperor ships... *Mark: *hint* *hint*

Well, I'm not going to be playing them as Centauri anyway. Kilrathi or
Orion is more likely - felinoids with a marked preference for fighter
ops.

Currently, we're using stock ships from FT2 & MT. We'll probably switch over
to FB rules after a few more games, at which point I get to create a
reasonable background for the fleet. If I do it right, it should be compatible
with the current "official" GZG background. (Gadzooks! Another alien race
encounter, by Jove!:)

Looked for some today - nothing at the local Toys R Us (hobby shopping
during Christmas season is the pits!)

Are those still available? I thought that the Spacefleet line was no longer
being made...

Even funnier when you consider where I work <g>.

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply. I think you have a good selection
there but I'd still be using the Alterian as a light crusier. I'm not going by
dimensions here but just what looks and feels right. In the end what looks and
feels right to you is what matters. I think the Star Fleet Battles Romulan
minitures will fill most of the gaps you still have. Any pics out there yet on
the Balvarin?
