Hi folks -

Several people have asked me to post the details of the realistic rules (they
aren't really much of a rules modification so much as a way to explain the
current rules with real physics) that I use for Solar Thrust.
The derivations are algebra-heavy, but aren't necessary unless you want
to design your own engines. I made a table of typical engines for comparison
at the bottom of the engines article. Fuel consuption rules and their
accompanying derivation are there, as are the background and history for the
Solar System in 2063. I'm working on the strategic movement rates now.
Feedback would be very welcome! The main page URL is:

of collecting Isp and deltaVee information about various propulstion systems)

The future history and scenarios are quite well realized and engrossing. Lots
of scope for great scenarios in there.

Have you ever played SPI's BATTLEFLEET MARS? It includes

I'd be interested in seeing any drive parameters you might have!

I've been looking everywhere for it, but I've never played it. Several people
have recommended it to me. At the con, Los said he might have a line on a
second copy, hopefully he's checking on that for me. I'd really like to get
that game (Triplanetary and Belter, too).

The things I've heard seem to agree. I've been forging ahead with my own set
of rules, but I'm not averse to switching to a different system. The strategic
rules I'm working on now (I'm not satisfied with the econonomic rules yet)
extend out to Pluto, which few systems do (though I bet they could be easily
adapted).

BFM BTW uses Ion drives for strategic movement, with chemical rockets for
tactical movement. Thus a ship may do 0.01g for 2 months (to
turnover) then 0.01 for another 1 3/4 months to decelerate, then a few
minutes of 1-4g in combat.
