They need a firecon in antiship mode per SG even if against the same target.
Your are thus limited to three for capitals and two for cruisers

and one for escorts.

This seems reasonable on the surface. Anyone can to give it a test to see if
it's effective?

These are *the* SG *rules* in MT IIRC, I'm just making a generalisation of the
number of FCons per class as an illustration.

You remember incorrectly. Only 1 firecon per target is required in
anti-ship mode (MT p.26, 2nd paragraf, last sentence).
