Subject: [FT] Questions from a new-ish-bee

Hello all,

I recently (ish)started playing Full Thrust, and a question has begun to
nag..

Why are needle beams fixed mount? I cannot think of any reason regards
proposed technology or game balence why they shouldn't have the option
of multiple arcs of fire (at an increased mass/cost, presumably).

On the subject (and this has probably been suggested before - but I
couldn't find a reference in the archives) - if, by default, beam
batteries a particle beams, then needle beams _could_ be lasers, hmm...
mirrored hulls anyone? :-)

On other subjects, looking at the Core Dystems optional rule - ships
appear to have some type of auxillary bridge or similar backup system as
standard (and presumably some space officers) -makes sense really- [see
description of Command Bridge Hit]. So, why couldnt a ship have a backup power
core or life support system (presumably at a mass & points cost)? Of course,
the must be a reson for most ships not having such backup systems, or everyone
would have one! (possibly the aformentioned cost would be high).

Finally,

<Ratty emulation mode ON>

in Fleet Book 2 - I cannot find the mass and points cost of
either Stinger nodes or Pod launchers in the text describing them - I
can find the values in the examples given on page 24, but nowhere else,
likewise, for both Kra-Vak and Phalons, Fighter Hanger Bay are stated to
use 9 Mass and cost 18 points, (page 10 and 36), while in Fleet Book 1 a
Hanger Bay costs 3 points per Mass.

<Ratty emulation mode OFF>

Finally, a plea from the wilderness... does anyone know a source of Risc Os
compatible utilities & resources for Full Thrust? (i.e. ship design probrams,
ship symbols, fonts, etc.
- I would be happy with WMF or other common vector format ship symbols
and unprotected true-type fonts at a stretch)
I have found quite a nice fleet book symbol font in true type -
unfortunately it had the 'protect against conversion' flag set for some
reason, and the conversion program respects that setting :-(

Because when the first one goes, it goes in a most spectacular way. Space dust
doesn't need a backup power core.

Isn't there a rule that you bastids can't whinge about products until us poor
benighted colonials get our copies?

If you aren't happy with the damn thing, send it to

G'day Charles,

> in Fleet Book 2 - I cannot find the mass and points cost of

Umm well, umm at least they were there somewhere.... sorry 'bout that.

> likewise, for both Kra-Vak and Phalons, Fighter Hanger Bay are stated

Yep that's another problem, for the Phalons and Kra'Vak they're actually as of
FB1 (that'd show up if you tried to mirror one of their carrier designs). If
its any help, Oerjan pointed out a lot of the fumbles last week so they'd be
in the list archives (send to majordomo for those as I don't think Jerry would
have them up yet). I also think someone was collating them into a FAQ(??).

Besides those grumbles how did you find it? Tim for one would like a thorough
review.....;)

Cheers

Beth

Also sorry - I actually like it very much - I just can't find that
particular data (and yes, it could be me).

I like it a lot, (although I _worry_ about Phalon plasma bolts :-) each
of the alien races has its own distinctive capabilities, and will evolve its
own tactics.
The Kra-Vak and Sa'Vasku are much more detailed than they were in More
Thrust, and have more toys (ie. systems) to play with, those pod
launchers have a lot of potential :-)
Also the artwork is very good quality.

However I would have liked a table summarising the component costs, but this
is only another minor quibble.

All in all, a worthwile buy.
