thanks beth and binhan for your descriptions of Piquet. i have asked other
sources for more detail other than the Piquet web page and have not gotten
very much until now.
re: the extreme highs and lows can be lessened by a modified
impetus die roll. instead of 1d20, why not 2d10 or 3d6+2.
note that the ends of the distribution are traded for more
of an average. this might help to prevent one-sided games.
> impetus die roll: instead of 1d20, why not 2d10 or 3d6+2....
this can be modified further by fleet command quality:
Green - hardly possible (unexperienced fleet commander???)
Trained - no mods
Veteran - +2 to roll
Elite - +4 to roll
OR
rip off a Battle Fleet Gothic idea for fleet commanders - rerolls:
(1 die = 1 reroll)
Trained - 2 rerolls/game
Veteran - 6 rerolls/game
Elite - 10 rerolls/game
of course, you gotta pay fleet points for more experienced admirals:
Trained = 0 Veteran = 50
Elite = 100
campaign games could allow admirals to move to a higher level after battle
experience.
[the above numbers are ideas only; they are not yet playtested.]
