Subject: FT-Missiles
There has been discusion about MT missiles, and if they are laser heads or nukes, and I posted a artical that was forwarded to me about how little dammage or how close a normal nuke would have to get to cause dammage to a spacecraft (I know it was from a HH discusion board, but it`s still valid). Thinking about this has brought a idea to mind. Salvo missiles These are a convetional warhead, using futuristic enhanced explosives, a shaped charge, and kinetic energy to dammage a ship. Would also explain the half dammage to armour and half to hull. MT Missiles These use a bomb pumped laser warhead to deliver the dammage to there target. Instead of half dammage to armour and half to hull, how about using the same rules a K-guns, and having the first point of dammage from each die applied to armour, and the rest to the hull (to represent the x-ray lasers burning through said armour). We could also have MT missiles fitted with standard high yeald nuclear warhead, but these would have to get CLOSE to the target, increasing the chances of a intercept with PDS, but also causing a lot of dammage. This can be represented several ways. For the closer to target, they must be within 2MU of the target, and their suseptability to PDS, every PDS (or Cl.1 bat) gets 2 die instead of 1. For the greater dammage, have 4D6 points of dammage, but must be allocate all to armour first (not half/half like SML`s). Just a rough idea, thought I`d share. As for the movement of MT missiles, I use them like fighters. They have 3 turns endurance, and move in the fighter movement phase, but before the fighters (giving fighters a chance to intercept). Each primary movement uses 1 endurance, and can move 24MU. Can move in the secondary movement phase (just like fighters) by using 1 endurance, upto 12MU. They can also expend 1 (note only 1) endurance to burn out their drive in a sprint attack, giving the defending ship less chance of intercepting the missile (-1 on PDS/Cl.1 rolls. IE-PDS intercepts on a roll of 5 or 6, Cl.1 on a 6 only). Laser warheads have a engaugement range of 4MU, and nukes only 2MU (remember the 2 die per PDS as well). MT missiles will attack the nearest target, unless a firecon is used from the attacking side (any ship, not just the firing one), in which case, they can attack any ship within their engaugement range.
