Now for a slight change...
In More Thrust [MT] I have the impression that you can fire as many missiles
as you want to each turn, as if each missile has its own "launch bay." Any
thoughts on "Missile Launchers" and stores of missiles, reload times, etc?
Sort of the same for fighters. You have fighter bays and fighter groups, but
can you have fighters more fighters than you have bays?
Thanks

Check out the FT-GZG mailing list archives. They are found at:
http://www.net/~jerry/ft/full-thrust.html
It contains the archive of the list up until June last year. Hope it all
helps.
For reloading missiles, try "June, 1996" and look for Anime-style
Missile swarms. That should be a good place to start for reloadable missile
rules.
Dunno about the "reloadable" fighter bays, but there might be something in
there somewhere.

What I mean is that energy weapons recharge and can be used more than once.
Rail Guns may also be used on more than one turn. Perhaps missiles should be
given more Mass and Cost, figuring a set value for the Launcher and then
mass/cost values for x-number of missiles. You can buy one, two, three
launchers and then buy 5-packs of missiles. However, you can not split
missile packs over more than one launcher.
Meaning ... five launchers can not access one 5-pack in one
turn. However, and keeping each pack of missiles the same type, on one turn
launcher
"A" accesses the ECM-Missile pack and then on the next turn a different
Launcher accesses the ECM-Missile pack.
The way I read the More Thrust rules now once you fire your missile it is
gone. If you have one missile or 20 you can fire them whenever you want to...
one each turn or all at once. This doesn't seem "right".

Hmmm, well modern ships have "launchers" connected to magazines with more
missles, so this would be accuarate. But, "Technically" there's no reason why
they have to launch only a few at a time. A missle sub could theoreticaly
salvo all it's missles at once, and the Navy was pushing the "Metcalf" modular
missle cruiser for awhile, which was to
be capable of not only salvoing it's land/sea attack missles at once,
but would also be able to launch against air targets as well. Course once you
fired you'd pretty much shot your bolt and if you didn't destroy the enemy in
one, you were in big trouble. In FT,I got the idea that space to space missles
were so big they were almost small ships in themselves. Probably at almost as
big as a small fighter. Course this could lead to such neat inovations as I
remember for the H. Beam Piper books. (Missles big enough to carry their own
couunter missles and defenses) Randy

I think the only way i see this happening would be to make the missles easer
to shoot down, as the missles work right now they are too damn effective to
allow reloads. The missles crusier in MT is currently the only ship my group
has used carring missles. The favorite tactic of this ship is too proceed at
maxium speed to the nearest enemy captial ship that you don't like, fire all
the missles as close as you can get, the go FTL. This usually results in one
cripiled dreadnought.

I agree. Maybe missiles should be purchased in launchers.
Well, as I've done some closer reading of FT and looking over a few books on
modern military systems I find that Patriots, Tomahawks [cruise] seem to come
in "packages" and that FT missiles are LARGE [twice the mass of a fighter].
The mass and cost of a group of fighters includes the launch bay. Since the
mass and cost of missiles seems to be almost twice that of fighters couldn't
we then expect to have large "holes" [tubes can have hatches] in the ship. How
about something similar to launch bays? Then, for a small
"price",
additional missile packages can be purchased and available for reloads during
the game?
We tend to see throwaway Missile Dreadnaughts carrying nothing but missiles
and FTL and a 4 thrust.
