G'day,
> Can we have specifics?
They cost 30 (I think as I'm doing this from memory - I'll have to check
sorry).
In all respects you consider them to be standard fighters (though we are
considering changing this so they have the same dogfight stats as an attack
fighter) except that they can perform boarding actions if so desired. Note
that they don't have to attack by baording, they can attack ships as normal
fighters do if you want - they do this with the stats of a normal
fighter. When the fighter attack is designated the player announces whether
its a normal fighter attack of a potential boarding action attack and then
anti-fighter defense (PDS etc) is complete as usual. After the PDS etc
fire is complete, if the mechas are going to board, for every 3 mecha fighters
left in the attack (rounding if there are not staright multiples of 3 left)
you get one offensive factor for the boarding action and then the boarding
action is played out as normal. Note, that if the mecha win the boarding
action they can't take over and man the ship, it just becomes a hulk.
These rules seem to work well so far - I think Michael (the guy who uses
the Mecha and came up with the rules) has done a good job of avoiding the
temptation of making them a super-weapon.

Yep that's certainly possible, Michael just hasn't tried it (thought of it)
yet.

G'day guys,

I checked, they're actually only 24.
And another note that I missed was that if they're doing a boarding attack
(and any survive to get in) then they don't have to be matching speed etc
(like ships do) they just go in.

MMMm, mecha rules. I've been hammering out some advanced rules to reflect
Gundam-style mecha. I'm curious if any minis were used and if so, any
chance on seeing pics or at least descriptions?
Just a quick comment, Eli

G'day Eli,

I'd be glad to keen to have a look when your finished please.

Minis were used, they were the mecha fighters (can't remember the official
name/code) that Nic at Eureka sells (I'm guessing GZG does too).
Basically they look like mecha in standing mode and are about the same size or
slightly larger than standard GZG FT heavy fighters. I don't have any pictures
but their general stance is something like (excuse the ascii
art):
___
| | <- 'head'
----------------
| | | |
| | | | <- 'arms'
--- | ----
| / \ |
| | | | <- 'legs'
| | | |
---- ----- <- 'feet'
There are also small 'hatches'/panels etc as detail on them.
Michael has the mounting pin stuck between the legs, so they're all standing
upright, but you could mount them at angles etc if you wanted. They look
pretty good (i.e. my description doesn't do them justice).

They're our GF-009 Mecha Fighters.... same price as all our other
fighter packs (95p UK for 6).
[END COMMERCIAL BREAK] ;-)
